I recently watched a video of some people saying that WoW is at 500k subs…
How do they calculate this? Does anyone have any idea?
Or could it just be the number of guilds doing raids?
They say TWW is doing well, but I believe it’s been hard to retain players.

Anything that isn’t official Blizzard numbers isn’t much more than a guess though.

First, Its extremely important to distinguish overall subs, subs only retail, and subs only playing retail.
Briefly, total subs is several million.
What they were examining is how many have an easy and early war within schieve (you’re getting a delv) to estimate how many people at a minimum are playing war within. That came out to 500,000 due to sites like wowhead recording that many with the achieve. Its a mí nimim though, the actual number is probably twice or three times that.
So its a minimum that allows for an estimation regarding how many are playing the war within.
You just sit down and start counting every player you see.

I get my estimates by going around asking people how many friends they have. So far I’m understanding there are at least 10 subs.
I believe they are tracking the delve achievement you get early in the story, mind you this doesnt count the other 6 versions of the game so the number is probably much more higher, also doesnt count the numbers of players in df still.
If Im a war within player though, what really matters is how many activiely playing war within because that represents how many are available to do war waithin content with.

Dang. I’d rather have that. I keep hearing “nine…nine…nine…nine” and insane laughter. It’s probably nothing.
They aren’t calculating. They are guessing based on Keys completed. Fact is, we had 7.25M when TWW started. Only Blizz knows how many are active. Everyone else is a liar, or wants to sound like they know for certain. They don’t.
