Why were you dealing with an organization that dealt in RMT? I imagine the same thing that happens if you are dealing drugs and your drug supplier is caught and he owes you money.
What I don’t get is why people were trusting a guild name Gallywix? I mean, could you have been more obvious?
Same reason people do business with the Ferengi on Star Trek. They’re shady but dammit they can get what you need.
Thats the problem with such communities, as a normal booster / advertiser you cant really know what the higher ups are really doing with the gold you collect for them. But I guess if you didnt directly do RMT stuff you wont get banned for simply boosting keys for gold.
I always suspected some of these communities to be fishy… knowing how many top players / guilds engage in RMT. Good to see blizz finally acting on this issue.
They didn’t punish the community at all. They investigated and found that a significant enough amount of the Gallywix community sold gold for RM. Hence, they had a ban wave for those accounts and explained that they are going to be investigating other communities in the future. The options they have in levels of anonymity are to name the community, name the individuals banned, or name no one. They evidently named the community as they believed a significant enough portion of the management was involved in the RMT and likely to demonstrate that everyone can be investigated, no matter how sketchy they appear on the surface.
I find the timing of this crackdown somewhat amusing though. No Method, and all of a sudden they start to do something about these.
Servers gone so that’s fun wonder if blizzard will pursue legal action against them or anything server twitter website are all wiped.
Obviously the majority of people were completely unaware of Gallywix doing RMT. They were very harsh about any of their actual boosters accepting RMT for runs, the issue is evidently about management/especially high level boosters selling gold.
The only rmt that was going on in gallywix which appears to now be confirmed since the cowards deleted everything was the management cut at the top was apparently being sold. Less than 1% of the community was involved so yes they punished the community rather than banning just the offenders.
They didn’t ban every participant in the community, they banned the people who actually conducted the RMT. If a company is shut down because executives did something illegal, you aren’t punishing the base-level employees because they happen to be out a job.
if only this were true. they banned a lot of innocent people who had nothing to do with RMT, but held onto the gold.
thanks blizzard.
I mean, if the management in charge was the one selling, they don’t have much to ban in that case. A lot of people who make real money off this game don’t even truly play it; they just organize stuff.
I have friends who sold with Gallywix; none of them are banned or have been contacted about it.
Also sold hundreds of carries back in MoP and nothing ever happened to anybody because real money wasn’t involved.
I’ve always told people to just go directly to guilds for carries. No middle man, less issues, less shady practices, and all the gold stays on your server economy.
And hopefully with less spam in our trade chats, we can get more buyers for our own sales going forwards.
Did they ban you felryn? Apparently admin was given to everyone on the discord servers and admin chat was screenshotted before it all got deleted.
no else i couldn’t use the forums.
the gally discord/twitter are gone though. deleted.
Okay so here’s why Gallywix got big. Guilds do not want to have to find buyers and they don’t want to have to actually take the gold. Blizzard will ban you for having bought gold in your inventory even if you don’t do it yourself multiple top raiders found that out the hard way. That’s why guilds want a middleman to separate themselves it’s also why most collectors used separate accounts to collect.
I was so confused. It’s a guild or something but its named after the goblin leader for some reason.
Really now? Wondering when those screenshots will get leaked. Or maybe someone will just post the whole admin log since they have plausible deniability.
It was a community that literally billions of gold ran through every month in terms of sales.

Like don’t most of these boosting communities RMT at the end of it all? What’s the point in dedicating undefined amounts of time to building a community that is racking up billions of gold when there is no real dollar amount gained beyond that?
It at least seems pretty obvious that its happening under the table…
