I’ve been giving the action cam a bit more of a bash over the last few days. I think I actually kinda love it. It takes some getting used to but I now find it really damn fun. I remember when it first got added a lot of people had really bad experiences with it. Some even experiencing motion sickness or headaches. But I’ve had nothing of the sort, which is surprising for me. I don’t think I’d make it my go to for dungeons though. Just for questing and stuff.
Anyone else still use it, or is it mostly just a forgotten experiment now?
I’m trying to remember in my small brain what that even was tbhhhh
It’s a different camera option they added to the game a while back. It’s an off centre, over the shoulder kind of view. Much lower angle. That’s what I really like about it actually. It gives you much more of the scenery.
It was never officially added with an actual interface option or anything. But it’s still there to use via slash commands if you want.
/console ActionCam full
to turn it on,
/console ActionCam off
to turn it off again. I have macros for each so I can just between them as I wish.
I use the basic action cam, not the full one. The difference is that the basic cam doesn’t move the camera horizontally or point it towards your target. It is still angled up more than the regular cam, which is why I like it for focussing on things ahead of my character. Have the macros as well.

I’ve not actually tried the basic one before. I should give it a go. See if I happen to prefer it to the full one.
I only prefer it because the over-the-shoulder camera was distracting when I first tried the full cam. I might have liked it over the basic cam if I stuck with it. If you like the placement, more power to you.
I’m just having a little go with the basic one now. Yeah, so far I like it. It’s a nice in between option. The off centre thing was the part that required some getting used to. Which I had done for the most part, but yeah having the low angle without it is pretty nice. Thanks for the tip.

There’s an addon, Dynamic Cam I think, that lets you really dig into customizing what Action Cam does and when it does it.
Bellular has a couple videos (titled something like “A New Way to Play”) that showcase using that addon with a console port addon (and software to map a controller to work with WoW) and honestly it’s kind of neato for world content, while still being totally viable even in a Heroic raid setting (though obviously not ideal).
Maybe worth looking into for some people. I believe the 2nd video is the one that links a “how to” in the description. IIRC one of the top comments on the video explains something that wasn’t right or was left out or something in the ‘how to’, as well. It wasn’t a great tutorial but it’s not too hard to figure out.
I have no idea if the console port addon is still updated. I didn’t stick with it for long, I just thought it was neat.
