I understand the very nature of WOW involves a lot of grinding, but I took a six or so month break and came back to the game recently to discover achievements waiting to be completed for things I’ve already achieved.
I’m specifically perturbed about the one in Blacksmithing requiring you to craft a Sulfuron Hammer. I spent MONTHS getting all the necessary mats to complete one of these back in the day (and subsequently Ragnaros.) It’s in my bank. My class can’t even wield it, but I did it.
The game should be able to determine automatically that I’ve done this and grant me this achievement, but not only does it NOT do that, googling tells me others have reached out to support on this and have been told they have to do it AGAIN to get the achievement.
I myself reached out to support and I got back a generic pre-written form response telling me what link to use for my “feedback,” not even acknowledging my question.
In 15+ years of playing WOW this is the first time I’ve truly felt like what they’ve done is predatory, designed to do nothing more than force you to waste time in the game in order to eat up subscription hours.
If this is truly meant to indicate something I have ACHIEVED, then give me the ACHIEVEMENT, because I have!
As designed, the achievement isn’t about creating the hammer, but wielding it. That’s how the legendary weapon achievements all are.
That had some basis in the original context, where assembling the weapons required a team effort, and no team would help someone who can’t use the weapon. That would have been a waste of the team’s work to no team benefit (the weapon being a powerful addition to the team’s ability to progress endgame content).
Maybe the devs could climb down on that and make posession of the legendary sufficient, but that would have other impacts, such as the achievements associated with getting the transmog appearance of the Glaives of Azzinoth.
The achievement is SPECIFICALLY about CRAFTING the hammer.
If it were about WIELDING it, it wouldn’t be a profession/blacksmithing achievement.
In order to craft Ragnaros, the blacksmith first had to craft a Sulfuron Hammer. It is BoP, so as soon as it’s craft, it is possessed by the blacksmith who made it until they vend it or use it to create Ragnaros.
Ergo any blacksmith who has Ragnaros in their hand has clearly already CRAFTED a Sulfuron Hammer, and met the requirements of the achievement in question.
Wielder of Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros.
Right in the achievement tooltip.
Oops, you’re thinking about a different achievement than I was. The leggo FoS was the only one in the game when I had the opportunity to craft Sulfuron but didn’t (because the Eye of Sulfuras dropped on a toon that couldn’t wield it).
That’s one of the new-fangled (10.1.7) crafting achievements which frankly are all buggy crap. A lot of people are not getting credit for most of those, even the mundane ones like “make X doohickeys”
They’re so worthless I mentally wrote them off, I guess.
Well I’m old and stubborn and crafting has always been my favorite thing in the game, even when they made it stupid and overbearing I was able to re craft one of each of the keys (all of which I had previously crafted but whatever.) But I’m pretty pissed about the hammer.
FWIW, there has already been a lot of complaints about the “no retroactive credit” angle but it’s clearly deliberate and the silence from the devs says more than anything else about that series of achievements.
We the players are welcome to have opinions, but the devs are free to not care.
The Epic Hammer is BOE
The Legendary is BOP, but you can just buy the Epic and grind out the Eye.
You sure as hell dont need to be a blacksmith to create the legendary hammer, so having it, in no way, ‘proves’ you made the epic hammer.
