So off the top of my head there was no achievement tracking in game until… I wanna say TBC?
Can anyone who played on private servers let me know if add-ons were created for this? If classic has a theoretically infinite lifespan and finite content release then achievement hunting could be a fun way to pass the time.
No achievements where in the game until 3.0.1 IIRC which was the WOTLK pre-patch.
The best idea to keep track of such is opening up a Notepad file and writing down into it. Though there may be an addon, that will give you achievements, if you want.
Obviously there’s no actual NEED for it… I’m saying it would create optional fun beyond the lifespan of the content cycles when you have to kill bosses a different way to the norm or without taking any damage from x etc…
I can’t really see a way to do that manually with a spreadsheet (could ask all 40 people to check their combat log?)
Sometimes it’s a nice surprise to know you’ve returned 100 flags in WSG.
I will second the notion that a characters progress can be designated by the gear they wear. However, this only shows others that you were present for a kill. Wether you “earned it”, were “given it”, or you “bought it” are entirely different matters. Either way, the concept of achievements would not show any difference, and therefore would serve little to no point.
It could be done in the addons’ scope but never heard of one.
And I doubt someone took the time to make something that niche, they would have to track hundreds of variables (or a very long array with god knows how many indexes) to be able to recreate an achievement system just for the vanilla part
Achievements and video games are one of the saddest combination of words/concepts ever created. The more achievements one has in video games the less one has in real life. It is an inverse ratio thing.
Some people like achievements in their games. Some people don’t. I personally don’t mind them, but I’m not looking for them either.
Classic WoW didn’t have Achievements, and so they won’t be in. If someone makes an addon for it - which is within the realm of possibility - have at it! Go with blessings.
Since I lean #nochanges I’m worried of what the retail style achievement system would do the classic game.
Im only comfortable with changes like guild banks or in this case the achievment system making it into classic if it feels authentic to classic.
Im my mind the only way a classic wow achievement system would work without hurting the classic feel would be if it was completely personal and no one could see it. Other wise it would be used to gauge a player over just making a new friend.
This is a possibility of what could happen,
“O this player only has 500 achievement points what a noob.”
Or “Looking for off tank for naxx must have full clear achive already!”
Even with a full non linkable personal system, after awhile people will know what achievements there are and it could still lead to this behavior.
