While playing tonight this thought came into my head. When the achievement system came out in patch 3.0.2 in Wraith of the Lich King did a lot of achievements unlock right away. For example let’s say you explored all of the Eastern Kingdom was that meta achievement automatically unlocked for you? I don’t know because I skipped Wraith and came back during Most of Pandaria and was not paying attention to a lot of things.

Yes, a lot of already cached requirements triggered on the first day the system came out.
If it was something the game could track, yes you got a lot of retroactive credit for a lot of achievements.
A lot of dungeon achievements were granted automatically since they could be tracked via the statistics tabs. Also things like Level 10/20/30/40/50/60/70 were given to you as well.
I recall having about 5500 points up front on day 1.
However, my BC/WotLK classic mage who had completed even more stuff in advance (thanks hindsight!) didn’t start out with that many, so it’s possible my 2008 memory is simply unreliable.
