Ace3 Addon?

I don’t recall installing this addon and wonder if I need it for something else to work. Is it needed for anything in particular that is a popular/common addon? Maybe simulationcraft or something like that? Should it normally be kept on or off?

It comes with Altoholic

Thanks, but I don’t have that addon. Anything else?

A bunch use Ace ElvUI, DBM, Pawn, … etc.

Well I have DBM and rely on it probably more than I should. So Ace3 needs to be installed and loaded for DBM to function?

Ace3 isn’t a functional addon. It’s a set of support libraries. And every addon I know of that uses any of those libraries installs their own local set of them within their own directory.

AFAIK, installing Ace3 standalone is pointless unless you very carefully remove the redundant libraries embedded in the using addons

Agreed a Lot of the addons I use have ACE3 Libraries embedded in them. Some of the Addons give errors making part of the addons Not working because the person making/updating the addon don’t update the ACE3 Library section in their addon.
So if your Addon is not working right and giving you Errors saying ACE3 you need to report it to the people who made that Addon so they know to update the ACE3 Library embedded in their addon.

DBM should already have Ace3 Libraries embedded into it, so you should have to do anything to use DBM

It’s a library that a lot of addons use. Libraries are inside an addon’s folder, if they use them. If your Ace3 is in your base AddOns folder, listed among other addons, then it’s most likely safe to remove.

Thanks. I’ll try disabling it and see if anything goes bonkers, then remove if not.

The only way a standalone set of Ace3 libraries would work would be if you went to the trouble of installing “no libraries” versions of the using addons. AFAIK, not many addon authors bother with that.

Turns out RDY’S Crate Tracker is dependent on it. Won’t work without it installed and enabled.

Typically, a dependency doesn’t come as an external addon. It usually comes in the addon’s libs folder.

But addons that depend on Ace3 may choose to not directly include them, requiring the standalone install. And the author’s comments for that addon makes it clear this addon is one of them.

Weird, but true.
