Thats why I recommend an opt in system with a token. Sorta like the new heirloom maps which reveals all the map and flight paths. You click and boom exalted (can only purchase if you have exalted rep with it on a character).
Personally id be for once youve earned exalted on one toon, it unlocks for your account. It would work the way flying does, once its unlocked, other toons can access it. OR dont lock recipes etc behind rep because its annoying to spend weeks grinding just so my alchemist can toss a cauldron to my raiding toon.
I remember making a post years ago about account wide reputations, and it was endlessly flamed by people saying they loved having to grind it out on every single character.
The main thing for me is that the system, however it ends up working, maintains intention as its core. You should need to pick which character is benefiting from the boost, so itâs almost like a favor from your more accomplished character, rather than some invisible force rewarding characters that never touched the associated content.
OPâs suggestion accomplishes this so itâs good enough for me.
People can still grind out the rep on alts, all it would be doing is unlocking the individual rep requirement from vendors. Like you can still grind out the requirements for flying on multiple toons.
Iâm not talking about account wide rep, as in you can earn rep via multiple streams into one collection point. But account wide unlock. There is a difference.
I like the idea of every rep in the game getting an heirloom added to their quartermaster at exalted that grants exalted rep with that faction the way the heirloom flight manuals gives flight points. The could even make it so that the heirlooms for reps that conflict with other reps (e.g. Aldor/Scryer) simply exalt you with one and make you hated with the other. They could even make the heirlooms cost like 3000g - 5000g each as a bit of a gold sink.
It leaves the choice in playerâs hands whether or not to use them, and anyone who claims that they donât want such an option because they want rp immersion but lack the self control to not use such an heirloom isnât really arguing in good faith imo.
I wasnt meaning Horde and Alliance. I was meaning as we have had in the past.
Where there are two factions at war in a zone. Us players decide which to side with.
I wonder how much it would cost them to put in new code for this, as opposed to all the revenue from the players who quit because they donât keep up with modern MMORPG quality of life?
Which means system stacking on systems and timegating instead of content, enforced 4 minute AFKs whenever you want to switch zones, Raid or Die, etc etc.
These might have been passable design choices 10 years ago, but games and the expectations players put upon them have moved on.
