Account-wide achievements makes Alts and achievements pointless

Although I agree that some achievements should be account wide, such as ‘Kill a million targets.’ or ‘Loot a million gold.’

Making the entire system account wide makes it pointless to even have more than one character. Anything that is done by any character is automatically credited to ALL of them, and is even credited to NEW characters on your account.

It is no longer possible to track anything that is a BLUE ACHIEVEMENT as they all say ‘Earned By Your Warband’ even though the individual character has not done any part of the achievement.

What was wrong with having blue achievements being listed as ‘All characters on your account have credit for this.’ and still allowing the individual character to track and attain the numerous parts of many of these achievements?

As a result of this account wide WARBAND achievement system, individual characters and alts are now pointless. There is no fun in having multiple characters and trying new races or class combinations as there is no longer any way to track their progress as even a brand new character with 0 min (Yes I have actualluy tested this and checked their stats pane) playtime starts out with 74 completed quests and credit for and unable to track ANY aspect of the blue achievements. Unable to track exploration of a blank map, unable to track the incomplete storylines of a zone . . . and even access to unlocked items that were supposed to be available when the character has done specific things; i.e. All of my characters have access to the Harrison Jones garrison follower even though many of them yet to have even started the Draenor storyline.

Thanks Blizzard. It is no longer worth the time or money to have more than one character, on more than one account. I can only imagine how parents that have their kids playing a character on their account are trying to explain this to them.

I think it’s great. Also, most achievements were always kinda pointless already anyway.

I thought it works like that too. Created a toon and instantly was notified that I earned Harrison Jones. Truth is, I don’t have him in my Garrison even though the game says I have him.

I’m not sure what to make of this and I fear I may sound antagonistic towards this as a result. If the crux of it is to make it so you can still get a color mark on something so as to establish that character earned it while also having the warband benefit from it, then I guess? With the ability for other classes to get the color and turning on and off map coverage?

I don’t see what harm it could be if there’s nothing else to do. Though honestly that just sounds like asking for busy work and chores and I worry about people not valuing their time in the short time they have. To be honest, I have a feeling that I’m just not understanding the issue as I feel like many of the those points could be handled by addons.

Like many others, I’m the exact opposite in this regard. I quit so many times because the game wasn’t valuing my time and when I wanted to switch classes, I felt like I couldn’t because I’d lose all my reputation and achievement progress (many times I found I fell out of love with a class while being 2/3rds the way done). In my opinion it was an archaic and some may say stubborn design to have to get them individually; I had enough of that in Vanilla killing furbolgs to the point it wasn’t worth making alts at the time (with the furbolgs I remember them saying that someone may want to do that grind multiple times, which I recall at the time thinking that those people probably hate themselves – though that’s a testament to how bad it was and not in relation to other things regarding this). But again, it probably isn’t a big ask to allow a color to light up if you want to spend a hundred or so additional hours doing the same thing again.

As for me: With Warbands how they are I can now have fun with every single class without worrying on how far I am in an achievement or reputation or just flat out quitting because I don’t want to play a class anymore, but it has all the progress on something. In fact, I’ve been leveling up every race and every class through Remix and pre-patch with the intent to unlock every heritage set, which is still only possible (for most races) by leveling them. There are also a lot of other outlets that make alts good, such as professions and even RP or different guild communities (if changing play-styles isn’t your thing).

The way I’ve always felt: I earned them once as a player; I’m not my class and I’d like to play every class.

That kind of design overall got a lot of people besides me to quit, and Warbands is getting so much more to come back. But having the option to disconnect yourself from warbands or warbanks shouldn’t be a problem on the player side. Might be a nightmare with Blizzard given there seem to have been problems with its initial implementation.

Though them coming up with ways to make alts more enticing isn’t a bad idea. Some ideas that I’ve heard in the past included allowing your warbands to be your followers in dungeons or delves. Also to go beyond caps on resources if each member of your warband is able to dedicate only so much a week and pool it. Back in Warlords it was useful to have a couple dozen for the war table. Making World Quests have additional rewards for additional warband characters is also viable.

Who earns the achievements?
The person paying the sub or the pixels on the screen?

Considering that Gladiator is toon specific I’d say it’s the Pixels

Probably takes less database space to track achievements per account than per character. Hopefully Blizzard will fix this or AI will soon be good enough to.

Long ago I took to creating my own spreadsheet page to track much of this as I figured some kind of bug would happen and screw it up. Never did I think that the bug would be intentional.

Its odd that it tracks if your past alts got the achievement but doesn’t track if new alts do ( just says earned by warband). Odd but happy at least they remember legacy stuff. I kinda enjoy wasting my time re-doing event achievements. Guess now there is no point. Altho was helpful tracking if i had collected Brewfest barrels in Dragonflight
