When your account is no longer suspended I am sure when you log into the character who got the gold from the trade will be short that amount of gold. That will tell you for sure that you got stolen gold.
Gold sellers are using these trades to launder and get clean gold and leave you to be suspended and loose the gold you traded.
Sorry, Splitends.
From your initial post I thought you knew. Yes, you received illicit gold.
Think of it this way. Not a perfect RL example because there simply isn’t one, but it’s as close as it’s likely to get.
You are going to a foreign country. You look to exchange your real money for that countries currency, and this guy in a back alley is giving a better than to be expected exchange rate.
You exchange your real dollars for fake foreign currency.
That’s frowned upon when it’s found on your person.
Good advice.
Thank you I didn’t know for sure. I could only assume this was the case when Mirasol mentioned it, but nice to know it was the actual cause. I know this is me being a little boas since it happened to me, but I had no ill-intent. I wish as a first time offender (since 2006?) I only had the gold removed. The 14 day ban seemed a little excessive. I have no issue in losing the gold (Thats fair to remove illicit gold). Even losing the 1.1m from my retail account is fair. But that 14 day ban for something I thought I was within ToS for stings.
Thanks you for everyone’s help and perspectives.
Be glad it is just 14 days! Could be much worse and if you try one of those trades again it would be
The trade of gold between realms and game iterations isn’t against the rules. It’s an unsupported practice though. It’s risky business on both sides of the transaction. Giving someone gold opens you to them stealing it and poofing off, just as being on the receiving end of gold leaves you open to being given illegal gold.
With it being an unsupported transaction, you have no recourse with Blizzard stepping in if you get scammed either way. And now you’ve been suspended on top of the loss of gold on both sides of the transaction.
Personally, I wish they would make the trade of gold between game iterations against the ToS, but alas, that’s just my two copper. I’m sorry you found yourself in dealings with either a gold seller or someone who has gotten their gold through illicit means. Good luck to your appeal and when your sanction has ended.
I agree. If this was against ToS I wouldn’t have attempted this and i think a lot of others wouldn’t as well. When the article mentions that this is unsupportive I took that as, Blizzard won’t get involved if you get scammed out of the gold. Which is fair.
Thanks
I would not try that again! Might not be against the ToS but if you get stolen gold again your suspension will be much worse or could even be a perma ban. Might not be agaisnt the ToS but unless you know the person I would not be trading gold like that. Can confirm the trading discord is loaded with gold sellers!
