Account Sharing - Does it go both ways?

So for example if I log into your account and they find out, you get banned. But what if they found out I was the one who done it, do I get a ban?

P.S. Not banned, never done that. I do have WoW1 and WoW2 for my kid to play, but he is 12.

Yes, I am not on my main or anything connected to my main, thanks for pointing that out.

But now more people showing up trying to log in and admitting they done the wrong thing, but how do they even find out?

So if person A (uses a VPN) has helped person B by logging into their account, different hardware and location even though they live in the same country, the VPN probably triggered something. So person B gets a ban, but than, person A also got a ban. Would they be able to track this?

It does make me wonder because the good lady and myself have an account each, but what if she decided to use my high end gaming rig instead of her one, would they see that she has logged in on different hardware? I ask this because I also have seen people get banned who live in the same house and use each others computer since one is much better than the other.

Maybe they account shared I don’t know, how anyone you really know? What actually triggers the account sharing ban to even begin with? It seems like if it is a location and hardware trigger than simply using another PC that uses a VPN since they are all the rage these days could very well falsely trigger an account sharing ban.

I’m guessing it’s hardware ID. I also doubt that small inconsistencies wouldn’t trigger the ban. Like me, In my house we have 3 PCs and 2 accounts for 2 people, and we use a VPN; and often log in/out of either account on either PC - and I wasn’t impacted on either account. I’m sure it also helps that the 2 accounts in question have the same RL address and often use the same Credit Card for purchase.

I’m guessing they are targeting Hardware IDs that logged into dozens of different accounts. Like imagine you were blizzard and you have Hardware ID X has logged into accounts 1, 2, 3, 5, … ,10, 11, 12. Often Hardware ID X would completed the mage tower, then never logged into that again. It would be pretty safe to assume that ANY of the 12 accounts that were access by Hardware ID X were in some way involved in illicit activity. Either buying a Mage Tower clear -or- maybe account 3 and 7 are actually the sellers primary account. So they are being punished along with the 10 accounts that bought the service.

Again, I’m not a Blizz employee. This is all just speculation.

I don’t think family accounts will count. I pay for accounts my kids and wife use, so I log into them fairly regularly.

“You may not share your account or password with anyone, except if you are a parent or guardian, in which case you may permit one minor child to use your account. You may not use your account at the same time, and you are liable for activities conducted by the minor child.”

So if they do indeed track hardware ID, than it’s possible it can go both ways. That is if someone is logging in to someone else’s account, they might also be banned for helping them since they are both technically account sharing.

So possible if person A logs into person B’s account, person B gets banned but they can see the same hardware is being used on person A’s account, they can ban them also?

And if that is the case, than basically it can snowball, anyone who uses anyone else’s same hardware may also be up for a ban. Speculation, but if at all possible, than anyone who is sharing a PC can be done if just one person does the wrong thing. Which means if anyone is using an internet cafe, than basically all it takes is one person to be that guy and everyone who has logged into those same PC’s, well GG.

And it makes sense if this works, someone does the wrong thing by helping another person, why shouldn’t both be banned. And if they are helping one person, whose to say they are not doing it with others accounts also.

Microsoft don’t yet own this company, not until sometime in 2022. And without a doubt Microsoft will do a better job, they will 100% do better. All you need to do is read around the interwebs and as basically everyone will say the same thing, Microsoft are the better of all the big owners.

They beat out Facebook, Google, Apple and basically any other conglomerate that there is out there in every way possible, not just being good to their customers, but in tech, research and development, you name it, Microsoft will make this place better.

I strongly suspect this is the primary evidence being used. I imagine the services were probably selling themselves as VPN’ing to your general location and telling their customers just say “friends machine” if something comes up, but Blizzard is looking at something like 40 accounts completing mage tower from the same machine.

I don’t think this is the case, I live with my boyfriend of 5 years, his desktop is much better than my laptop, I play on his desktop a few times a month. Never been banned or warned (if you get warned first). Although I have always used my own account on his computer, never tried to log into his.
