Will Blizzard do a better job at policing this compared to Vanilla?
Ain’t nobody got time fo dat.
I was able to do rank 13 and still keep my job and eat meals, (but I think only because I worked in a restaurant and could eat there before leaving, lol)
Rank 14 needs you to either have extended leave/unemployment or share the account for sure.
Good question. I made it to Rank 11 and kept a spreadsheet to calculate what it would take to get to the next level and realized there was no way I could play 20 hours a day 7 days a week. I then learned that characters at rank 12-13 had whole guilds tag-teaming the characters to run them 24/7 to get that rank for the rewards and gave up. My retail hunter still uses that Black War Tiger as his primary mount.
Yea. It’s called the IP lock and the authenticator. Pretty much only way to share an account now is to live with the person you’re sharing it with. Even then an account logged on for 18+ hours a day might send up a flag.
Blizz will onow when they see people unlinking their authenticators. The IP lock though will be a bit tougher. Wonder if they check machine ID’s?
Good luck for those who try.
Glad i saved my vacation instead of using it on launch because the best chance is going to be in the begining. Before the real money traders, win traders, premade Dodgers, and other exploiters drive the numbers to insanity.
This was an issue i brought up 14 years ago. Rank 14 takes more time than is possible for the number of people who got it. The number of hours it takes would cause health issues if one person did them all.
If people were spending that many hours on anything more visible than a video game to the outside world, it would not be socially acceptable to take part in. Blizzard has to accept people, lots of people, who got rank 14 cheated and shared accounts.
I was 19 and in a college dorm at the time and there was a freaking sign up sheet on our dorm floor for hours you could play for other people while they had to go to class and stuff. One person would have multiple toons following them in BG’s and all the toons would be logged in 24/7 doing BG’s.
If it is anything like it was then, 7/10 people who get it will have cheated to get it.
i plan for rank 10 and only hope for rank 13
rank 14 tho…
yeah , no
Yea, given the difference of having a wife/career/mortgage/childrens nowadays, ill never make r14 unless they change something…
But, tbh i really only want r11, maybe 12 and 13 if they don’t feel too punishing; cuz that epic gear is decent.
R14 rewards are only worthwhile to melee anyways… Unless you want the bragging rights, but again, given my situation, i could care less and am not impressed…
They don’t even monitor account sharing right now with arenas.
Even if they want to monitor, how exactly do they do it? Whoever is playing the account can simply VPN to your location and then play. They can’t prove it’s not you.
Additionally, the people that will win are the people that have brothers/rl friends playing nearby and they will just take turns grinding on eachother’s characters from the same computer and no way anyone can track.
With how big the servers are, account sharing will be an even bigger issue here than in vanilla
The bigger the server, the more people you have to compete against, the more time you will be required to play in order to get top spots of honor earned per week on your server
Back when I was doing the r14 grind, I needed to play about 10 hours a day every day of the week, and that was in a WSG group that won every game in 6-8 minutes. If you were by yourself without a winning group, you can expect to be required to play 15-24 hours a day. You could theoretically grind honor for 18 hours a day solo and still not get top 10 for honor earned at the end of the week
Therefore people will be sharing their accounts and you will see chars logged in 24 hours a day, or else people will be paying Chinese farmers to grind honor for them
I guarantee it. The MAJORITY of people above rank 12 on a medium-high pop server will be cheating
Given their almost total lack of action against all the layer exploiters who’ve made fortunes, leveled to 60 in hours, etc. I highly doubt they care a damn about this.
Rank 14 is going to be a nightmare slog because of the larger server capacities. I got it on my druid in vanilla on a medium pop realm and I swear the grind probably shortened my expected lifespan. lol
It’s going to be even worse competition if you’re on the dominant faction on the super-sized realms in Classic. And if you’re in the minority faction on a pvp faction, fresh meat.
Nah. Blizzard will find a way to make it accessible for everyone.
And once that happens, people will claim that they’re just better players now and that they know how to grind more efficiently.
I’m lucky to get 2 hours per day. Rank 4, here I come.
Still stand by the fact that the rank system for pvp is garbo.
If pve loot was handled the same way people would have lost their sh*t.
It is garbage, but i think that’s how we ended up with arenas. Pick your poison.
Im not saying it should be changed for classic, but there is better ways then rank system or arena system.
How would they know if someone from my home is playing for me?
They wouldn’t and I’m not sure that’s technically account sharing being in the same household.
It is one of the most horribly implemented grinds in MMO history. No other grind causes you to LOSE progress in said grind if you didn’t happen to out-grind your entire server
It would be like if you were grinding reputation for a faction in WoW, and someone else happened to earn more rep than you that week for said faction…and the result was you LOST not only all your invested time for that week (60+ hours) but also some of the faction you had previously earned last week
That’s what it’s like to lose progress in rank 12+
