Account Selling

So now Im getting adds on facebook selling wow accounts, this is surely something blizzard is aware of right? Botting is obviously a big issue but hard to solve, seems like shutting down an account selling site would be managable you would think.

Those accounts for sale wouldn’t vanish if they squashed a FB ad. They’d make new one and keep going.

You do realize that Blizzard isn’t the police or any kind of legal authority, right?

You dont think they have any option there? Similar to shutting down the hack makers and stuff? Im not being snide or anything, Im genuinely curious as Im not the smartest bulb but I do know its an issue.

report it to hacks@blizzard.com, and let them take it from there.

Their option is to sue them, which takes time and money on a case they might not win, depending on what country is trying to sell the account.

I’m guessing their best option is to just shut down the account when they do something dumb and give themselves away.

Blizz has full control over their own environment. Shutting down other peoples’ environments is a whole different animal… not that it can’t be done but as others have said it would be whack-a-mole and each hammer swing would require a lot of legal effort.

Yeah I suppose you’re all right. I guess the brazeness of the ads caught me by surprise.

For ebay, you just report the auction. ebay does not allow illegal sales and they will pull the auction listing. Perhaps facebook has something similar for reporting ads?

not at all, the only wow related sites I ever use are icy-veins and wowhead. If I were searching them I sure wouldnt come here to complain about them lol

No but they can still shut down the account you buy. Someone bought a toon back in BC from one of the few people who had Warglaives on their server. The person was able to play around with the character for only a few days before both accounts were shut down.

They don’t like you trading accounts and such with other people for money.

I don’t remember which episode in Madseason’s infamous wow players it was in but he mentions it in that series.

I put in an email to the link Annastasi posted just to do my part, like others have said Im sure they are well aware but I can at least say I didnt turn a blind eye, right? lol

Don’t forget to turn a blind eye to this:

https://www.wowhead.com/news=321220/alleged-mythic-raid-boosting-in-china-region-possibly-affecting-alliance-hall-of

https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/game/hall-of-fame/mythic-raid/castle-nathria?faction=ALLIANCE

Just look at those rapidly pumped out kills these past 2 weeks from that region.

Blizzard is cool with it because the faster Hall of Fame clears, the sooner people stop talking about the faction imbalance they refuse to actually do anything about.

And the sooner they get to have customers buying tokens to get CE boost from other servers for mains on dead realms.

The funny thing about selling accounts is that players don’t own the accounts – Blizzard does. So anyone “buying an account” is just an idiot.

I’m sure the seller will give limited information about the account to prevent this very thing from happening.
