During Vanilla WoW there was a problem with gold farmers/sellers. The real problem was not them farming and selling gold. It wasnt them spamming the prices in trade chat either. The real problem was that in order to make faster profit the companies started stealing WoW accounts and selling all the characters to supply the gold. This was done in a variety of ways. IE Creating “clubs” and “guilds” that had logins. People often used the same account info to login.
In response blizzard created the authenticator. It used to cost money but was worth the peace of mind. It was later made free using a cell phone application. However, blizzard has encouraged people to use it by adding extra backpack slots if you are using it.
I am not one for changes, however I think encouraging people to use authentication in classic is a must. I wonder what people think of including the extra 4 slots for authenticated accounts. With how much more of a premium bag space is in Classic, I think they will get the majority to use it and make it harder for these nefarious actors.
Just a thought
I would love the extra backpack slots but I don’t the #nochangers will be for it.
The authenticator is its own reward. No change is necessary. (I’m not entirely sure this significantly increases account security anyway, since in general, the people who both would not have used an authenticator and would have re-used passwords or otherwise failed at account security will still have some way in which they are vulnerable.)

I use an authenticator and SMS, never gave that any thought in Vanilla. The Authenticator gives you the Core Hound Pup and adding SMS gets you 4 extra bag slots.
I wouldn’t mind the extra 4 slots, but like Priapis said, the #NoChangers would get their panties in a twist.

Yah I was also tooling around the idea of maybe starting everyone with just an extra 6slot bag on each character if they authenticated. It would help new characters a lot but wouldn’t effect mid or end game.

The #nochangers would, unfortunately, still scream about it not being vanilla like because “low bag space yadda yadda”.
Of the 2, I’d prefer the bigger backpack.

I don’t really see a need for it to be honest.
Like Aryx noted, having an authenticator is its own reward and many people already have it linked to their battle net accounts which Classic WoW will be running on.
If they absolutely needed some kind of in-game reward for having it, I would say do something like offer a CE pet(unless they plan on letting us get them some other way).
I know it would make them a lot more common than they were in real Vanilla, but it wouldn’t require changing the game itself and would still have some kind of reward tied to it.

Oh thats an idea, like an alarm-o-bot pet
Account security is its own reward. That said, if a reward is deemed “necessary”, then I would vote for a pet over extra backpack slots. And I say this as someone who will be giving up a bag slot for a quiver/ammo pouch.

I gave zero thought to this because I already have the extra slots for the SMS activation applied to my retail account. I agree that a promo reward to encourage adoption of the authenticator is a good idea and that a pet or toy or something is a better option than extra bag space, which will rightfully be seen by many as unvanilla-like.
I see the point of having the authenticator, in helping to secure the battle.net account. However, I’d rather blizzard didn’t offer anything other than maybe a special pet for having one.
In my mind if my account is hacked, then it it likely that my system is compromised, as I use a unique password for my blizzard account, and only log onto that account from my own systems. If my system is compromised, the risk is far higher than just my wow account. Finding my account compromised means my system needs to be nuked and paved. Thus I see slightly more value in not having one than having one.
haha
Unless you want to be stupid.
I don’t see a problem with the extra row in your backpack. And if it does encourage someone to use the authenticator then that is even better.
I mean its just a few extra slots… THAT is not killing classic. Is it? And its not a slippery slope. Just… man… Beside, a pet or toy TAKES up a precious slot!!!
Its getting real silly guys… thats all I am saying
EDIT: I had just posted this and saw three more Pet only posts. . What are you guys hanging out at the same Starucks? Doing a huge alert in some #nochanges discord any time someone says something that goes against your ideas? You all have some stellar organization!!!
BTW. I love you all!

well looking at it if i am not wrong here correct me otherwise. i do think that the client will be through the current bnet client which would provide the modern security we all take advantage of with minimal if ever any accounts being compromised with the physical or even the mobile authenticator we should be alright without risk of the old skeleton in the closet nightmare of our accounts being hacked.
You don’t need the extra backpack slots. If you don’t use authenticator and sms then you absolutely deserve to have your account stolen. Natural selection needs to become a thing again
Yah, I agree. If you are alone at night then you deserve to be mugged for taking precautions. “Natural selection needs to become a thing again”
I just like being hyperbolic. I also like encouraging people to do what is in their and the communities best interested via small incentives
Give the players 4 copper at character creation…
