OK so Blizzard don’t want us to adopt the one character model that other MMO’s have, not specifically FF14, it has been around longer than that.
But how about an account bound whatever? You have many alts that you want to send stuff to, you need to log out, send, log out again. Need more? Log again. And again. So why not start there, say level 60+ or something alt’s can access, share and grow your own account bank, no more needing to manage each alt’s bank, just access it from any character but still limit individual bags.
Than we can look at expanding our own enchants. Right now we need to write an enchant that we gained with our time onto a piece of paper and than send it to our own character to use it on an item we gained with our own time. Account bank? No worries, just deposit it in there and than go to our enchanter and enchant it ourselves, than log again and withdraw it.
The same can be said for tailoring, black smithing, leather working, engineering and so on. We have an engineer at level 90, can use the MoP stuff, why not let them place a goblin gliding kit onto an alt’s cloak? They could place it there and teach your alt how to use it, in that example we already have the gliding kits, why not take it one step further?
Anti dazing cloak from our tailor. The anti dismount item from our own leather worker. The list goes on. I mean, it is after all our own account, why can we not allow our own characters we have spent the time to grow to help each alt on our own account?
World of let’s get up to date with some aspects of this game.
I for sure would want to level more alts if I could use some of the items my high level characters have access too, especially the bank thing so I don’t need to continually send stuff around.
But imagine having account bound stuff, get a leather worker, place the anti dismount item on an alts heirloom gear and make it more fun to level.
I don’t even want anything this extensive. I just want my dual gatherer, who happens to be the toon I raid on, to be able to send mats to my leatherworker, who only comes to raid when one of the regular hunters is missing for whatever reason. I hate the soulbound mats that require me to schedule professions around who I raid on.
So make it all account bound. You collected it, you took the time to get that far as to be able to collect it, why not let your alts also use it? The game cannot survive being one and only per character forever.
Something tells me a lot of you forgot they recently removed the helmet xmog I use?
If memory serves, I believe they said they want alts to feel like individual characters rather than part of a collective. I’m paraphrasing, but Ion said that they want you to put time into your alts. The conversation was about to make Blood of Sargeras account bound.
But that is most of the reasons I don’t even bother with alts. It is akin to starting a new account that has access to your bank account and some mats that anyone can easily gather.
And that might be fine for those players playing World of Raidcraft, or World of Mythic+craft. But I don’t intend to make raiding a daily activity just so I can drag all my alts through it because the devs, in their infinitely narrow vision, decided that professions should be useless unless you can get raid-based materials.
Not necessarily more time playing, the sub stays the same, the time spent playing for myself at least would go up if I could access my professions in some way from my alts on other alts and share a bank to make it easier to get the items I want rather than mail 12 items at a time.
I remember in MoP when everyone complained about motes/spirits of harmony being soulbound and useless to most gatherer professions, they actually changed them to not bind. Everyone was happy but then they never changed the formula on every expansion after that. I’m really not sure why, that change made everyone happy. I even kept all my bloods of Sargeras hoping they’d eventually un-bind but no luck
And the motes actually dropped everywhere, not just in raids, so being soulbound wasn’t as bad; I could still get them on my alts, even if I didn’t do endgame content on them.
It’s sad, honestly, that the dev team never seems to learn from popular changes, like unbinding the motes of harmony. But they double-down on the ones that limit our options.
Ah, but if the competitive players suddenly need a new class to compete, that they don’t have yet, the point is that Blizzard wants THEM to have as difficult a time as possible GETTING there. It gives raiders a reason to be logged in on non-raid days, leveling a needed alt for the raid comp or to replace their poorly-performing main.
It’s messed up, but anything that makes ANYTHING take MORE TIME is what THEY WANT-- Hence the portal hoopla.
I’m going to go the opposite way; I strongly believe that each individual character is a unique and distinct entity within the World of Warcraft. As such, I think there should be FEWER account-bound items. I like that WoW focuses more on the character and less on the player.
That said, I would totally support an account-wide bank, and I would love it if fewer items were soulbound. If I do a world quest and get some 355 piece of Azerite gear that I can’t use, I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t be able to gift that to one of my alts.
This one I actually agree with. Having to do raiding to advance your profession doesn’t make much sense to me. And the shear amount of raid materials you need to make a single item is ridiculous.
