Access Violations and WoW

In short, I’m going to list everything that I have compiled for this issues, that still plagues many players today. Just skip if you don’t wish to read.

Currently using an Intel(R) Core™ i9-14900KF, 3200 Mhz, 24 Core(s), 32 Logical Processor(s), with a 4090 NVidia GPU. Spec wise, I SHOULD be able to play this game, however, currently I am not able to even play the game without suffering some sort of punishment. Running a dungeon? Am given a 30 minute debuff for “Abandoning” my party. Offline for less than a minute after a crash, in a new instance of an area, loot is gone, mobs that were cleared have respawned, rare that I was fighting is no longer around (No body, just gone). Punished because of…what Blizz claims is a known issue with my processor, even though event logs show no such thing. Any test, any post of my logs, have all been met with “There isn’t a WoW crash, so not sure what you are complaining about.” response. Mem check is a pass no issues, SSD check is a pass no issues.

This was not even an issue when leveling the first few character to 90. Then all of a sudden, crash crash crash. Kicked back to BNet, and able to log right back in. Stay in game for 1 minute, to a few hours, if I am lucky. So here is a list of what I have tried, and the circumstance prior to the new PC, and up until today.

-2016 PC upgraded to a new 2024 PC
-WoW files from old PC saved to External Drive, and copied over to new SSD
-WoW DF works perfectly fine, addons and all, with the entire game copied over from External Drive
-WoW TWW Early Launch goes live, and able to play with the game updated, out of date addons running, and no disconnects (Aside from the typical Blizz release issues)
-WoW TWW goes live, most addons have new updates for retail, and Blizz has a maintenance for Thursday
At this Point, still no issues
-After the first Tuesday patch, I start to DC every few minutes, to 30 minutes. Groups cannot be joined, since there is no allowance to be in a group and randomly get DC for 1-2 minutes, before you can be booted out of a group (Aside from the start of a run in a dungeon)
-I delete my addons, play the game without any running, the game issues persist. Can confirm, addons are NOT the problem
-Read online that you should NEVER save WoW game files to an External Drive, and move to a new PC, and that the preferred method is too just download the game fresh, from Blizzard. So i delete the game completely, read up on where lingering files, etc are on the pc, and remove EVERYTHING of Blizzard and WoW completely
-Wait a day, checked for Windows 11 Updates, GPU updates, Mobo Updates, and Updates to Bios, downloaded and installed. The PC is all up to date and ready for a fresh start
-Download BNET, which in-turn downloads WoW TWW. I let the process do its thing, and I am ready to play. No addons, only thing of WoW is what I have downloaded from Blizz.
-Game start, and plays normal…a few hours later, CRASH. Maybe I didn’t reset the PC.
-Restart the PC, start WoW, and no issues for about 8 hours. GREAT!
-Log back on a day later, and CRASH, after a few minutes of playing. Start rereading the forums about what I might have missed. Nothing except reading that most users with this issue are getting it AFTER the TWW update, and at no time did the majority have trouble with the same error during DF (Not nearly as widespread)
During this entire time, I am very aware of the Intel CPU issues, and know that I am affected like so many others

So with that said, what am I expecting. Two things, Blizzard just coming out and saying “If you are using these listed processors, there is no fix. You can try all you will, and follow what we’ve been told to tell you, but there is no fix. You could have a few days, to a few weeks of game play with no issues, but you will have problems. This didn’t affect you in DF, due to XYZ, and we are sorry for any issues that our newest expansion is giving you.”

Blizz could also discuss a few options, such as temporarily disable booting from groups. There seems to be a LOT of DC in the groups that I have been able to stay in, vs the groups that have actually booted DC players in my dungeon runs. Discussion about the option to FREEZE your account. When I paid for a year of the game upfront, it was way before TWW came out. I had no issues with the game. Even when I got the newer PC, TWW was months off, and WoW had not given me any issues. Knowing that now all I can do is log in, get an Access Error, and get off the game, while having prepaid so much in advance, is slowly starting to make me just say “Well, it was a nice run. Whatever changed, and Blizzards attitude towards the current issues affecting users since TWW released, has made the game utterly unenjoyable. I either let them keep money for nothing, or attempt to play for a few minutes, get booted, and try again until I’m fed up trying to play the game, so might as well count my losses, quit, and be done.”

It just seems sad that Blizz has zero dedication to their player base. Everything is about money, not what you get in return. Customer service is none existent and handled by people with no power to help you, but can just say “Well read this, send me this” or “Well Blizz is aware of the issue and will make a Blue post about it in the future”…which could be months before anything is even done.

Game Wise
Figured Id mention these few things, since most wont read this far, will troll, or just say “See ya” (That is the community that Blizzard has created and allowed to thrive.) People abusing exploits are not punished. Before, exploit abuse was cause for suspension, now its a blue post saying that only the EXTREME Abusers will be punished, everyone else will get a slap on the wrist, keep the items/gold/points/etc, and the exploit has been patched. Punishments for abusing the game, are no longer equal to the abuse. Basically, if you did not use the exploit, and missed out on it, its really “Your” loss. Those who abused the exploit, unless they were the top percent, got away with it. So what is the purpose of having us agree to terms, before we can even play the game, if Blizzard doesn’t even enforce them, or they are only enforced for EXTREME cases?

Lastly, the entire “Be nice to fellow players, no trolling, no harassment, no etc” agreement, holds no water. Just wait for off school hours trade chat, and/or weekend chat, and see what is said in there. People report, but you’ll see the same people do it day in and day out. Nothing is done, so why tie our hands up to play the game with threats of discipline, if they wont even discipline?

Just a thought…

This was happening to me progressively more until it was almost every 10 minutes.
I changed my BIOS “tweaking” option from performance to power save tonight and I haven’t crashed since.
We’ll see what happens.

I wont pretend to know what exactly your issues might be, however as a raptorlake owner (13th gen ) i have flashed latest bios and then post bios flash have selected default (aircooler )mode which is 125W and also have intel XTU loading ensuring my Vcore voltage is running a substantial offset to ensure I am keeping Cpu voltage low, I also have my GPU with like a 80% power limit on it through MSi afterburner as well to try to keep things under control.

Between a 14900 and a 4090 there is a lot of opportunity to push a huge amount of wattage that might be perhaps too much.

I spent some time watching Intel tuning recommendations from my Australian friend at Techyescity on YT to ensure my system is suitably tamed.

Again this is annoying and time consuming but not blizzards fault.

When it comes to Wow Live ( TWW ) i have set my graphics options quite a bit lower this expac as I want as much stability as possible versus raytraced everything.

So like ~8 out of raids and ~6 in raid.

I am mostly running with no addons atm until things settle down but when i -do- enable them I am constantly checking to ensure I am up to date with anything I am trying to load , if they arent up to date , I update and fully exit and reload.

Mostly when i do load something I am just getting by with just dbm core and only the necessary bits I need ( pvp timers and current raid ) and also details with just damage meters only so I can pick the correct top dps to share power infusion with.

I try to remember to use curseforge first to check and update addons before loading up the game when I do have the desire need to load addons.

I am sure things will stabilize as time goes on.

I know some of this stuff is a pain in the backside but this is how I am trying to adjust my desire to play with stability versus the pain points I might experience if I try to run things pedal to the metal early in the xpac.

I hope some of this is taken with the intent I am trying to convey.

That intent is that of a fellow player familiar with the frustration we experience when have problems trying to engage with the hobby we love.

Good luck.

I have been crashing since last Tuesday…

I was one of those who had their computer crashing due to a faulty raptor lake intel CPU (13th generation) but then I went through the process and got it replaced from Intel (they actually upgraded it to a 14th generation that was manufactured without any of the issues currently affecting thier predecessors) and was playing the expansion and my other games flawlessly. No more crashes until the patch. The funny thing is when it was the fault of my old CPU all my other games were affected… now it is only WoW and it is sporadic when it crashes. I tried everything, all my drivers are up to date, no problems with the new CPU, repaired WoW, then uninstalled and reinstalled it. I even went as far as reinstalling Windows 10 to see maybe if something wonky was happening on Windows side. Nothing. Literally only WoW crashes and me and my husband can play all of our other games without issue (ones that take waaaaaay more out of the CPU, GPU, etc then WoW does).

I am at my wits end to solve this. As an officer in a guild and one of our raid teams main healers I am forcing myself to sit out of the WoW experiences I enjoy most: raiding, M+ and rated battlegrounds. I cannot justify myself playing knowing that at any moment I can crash (and will crash, it happens at least once or twice a raid) causing wipes. Do you know how bad it feels to sit on the sidelines and watch your friends play?

I am beginning to resent a game I loved to play since Vanilla. I met my husband in this game, I met lifelong friends, I have so many experiences that I really really want this issue to be resolved. Each time time the game crashes I give info on the reports, I submit them, what options do I have now? Wait and see like so many others without a single response from a blue ? Can we get an acknowledgement that their might be an issue on their side or that at least they are investigating the possibility that they broke something in a recent patch/hotfix? Communication would go a long way, this company used to do better communicating. Please Blizzard, help us out, we want to play your game!
