So, ill preface this with i have a i9 14900k cpu, however it has never ran without the most recent microcode update (15.01). I’m having no issues in other games, but am somewhat consistently crashing in wow. I’m not overclocking or anything. Using intels CPU diagnostic tool says the CPU is passing everything. Drivers updated. Unsure what else to do otherthan unsubscribe.
If you bought a prebuilt computer, it likely ran without the microcode update several times when they installed software and tested the build.
because i was having issues with the CPU that came with the prebuilt, and RMA’d multiple times, i bought a brand new CPU and swapped them out.
Gotcha. Well, maybe other errors are happening around that. Care to attach a DxDiag here?
I had this issue forever. replaced 2 GPU, 2 motherboards, 3 sets of ram, new CPU, then a complete swap to a newer model computer. Throughout all of this I kept getting the error.
Download intel extreme tuning utility and drop the p core down a bit. Solved my problem perfectly. I dealt with this issue for over a year and only had the issue in wow.
If the above doesn’t help, feel free to add the diagnostic report.
I’m on my 4th 14900KS (the last to had the microcode updates and the most recent bios) and i still get access violation errors. I can’t in good faith recommend an intel at the moment.
WRT your issue - I believe you have to set the core ratio in the tuning utility each time (I could be wrong); i set the core ratio in my bios to avoid having to do that. I set the P core ratio to 55 (that is what it is called in the bios on my Asus board) and i have not had an issue since. Anything above 55 (5.5 GHz) causes issues.
Holy…
I’m glad I didn’t upgrade yet, but worried about the next big issue to happen when I do. I try to wait a bit after a new CPU is released, but sometimes we don’t learn about an issue like this for quite some time.
I’m lucky the folks that build my PC are fantastic and it was replaced under warranty with overnight shipping both ways. i just stopped sending it back at this point because I might get two hours or two weeks before anything goes wrong with the processor. I’m just tired of it all and a new season has started so I don’t want to miss raid.
For the OP, long term i would look at going AMD until Intel gets its act together. That is my plan, but in the interim you will have lots of happy gaming sessions with the lowered P cores.
