For the past several months I have had infrequent (probably 1-2 times per week) crashes of WoW. These are very smooth crashes, as though I hit alt+F4 and the game just stops and flashes an error. The error says:
Program: C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft_retail_\Wow.exe Exception: ACCESS_VIOLATION - The instruction at “0x00007ffdc57f1b38” referenced memory at “0xffffffffffffffff”. The memory could not be “read”.

Since I first started getting these errors, I have tried the following:
Updating motherboard drivers
Updating graphics drivers
Running as admin
Lowering MHz speed on RAM from 3600 to 3400
Swapping back to previous RAM that seemed stable last year
Running discord as admin
Uninstalling and reinstalling WoW
Running WoW without addons
Nerfing graphics.
Among several other attempted fixes
I still encounter this error and it seems to only be with WoW. It is very frustrating and I would greatly appreciate assistance in fixing this issue. This is a fairly new PC, bought last year, and it handles other games such as Helldivers and Grounded without issue.
These errors are super basic and simply mean “WoW can’t access game assets.” This can be the result of corrupt GPU drivers, broken permissions on the directory, corrupt WoW install, outdated Windows install, the list goes on and on.
i have the same issue here
13900 cpu 3080ti graphic
64g ram,
i was fine before
starting this week, my game starts to crash randomly and getting worse.
right now i can not even open the game.
How high do you have your Graphics set? Wow can and does use more the 3 gigs of Vram memory . I use to have a 3 gig card and it crashed every time it ran out of Vram.
I’ve been playing it on fair settings to see if that will help. Though, I have played it on higher settings on this PC before and it was fine.
I do have a follow up question! Between the last time I played and didn’t have this issue- and now- I was gifted a second monitor. Could that possibly be contributing to the issue, if I have such limited vram?
thank you both for the suggestion. I did try unplugging the monitor completely and the crashes are still happening. At this point I’m wondering if I just need an upgrade. I appreciate yall answering my questions.
So I’m having same issue, 14th i7 4070, but the crashing with access violation only has started happening after coming back after taking a month or two off. I was playing fine with the same build before break.
Something that I have only just thought of is that I switched from game ready drivers to the other one. Will have to drop that off and try again.
