Accepted builds

Hello

So I’ve been looking at some builds suggested and there seems to be pretty solid “this is the best way to play” agreed across some games for types of builds. I’ve only looked at Shaman and Priest so far but my question is if I wanted to work at say elemental shaman but keep a 1H and shield and forgo the 2H weapon and choose enhance and heal talents does this really end up hindering me so that much of the game becomes unplayable at a later level?

I understand that certain builds are just more useful for leveling and some things may be required for endgame raiding but my goal to make it further in the game than I got when it launched (fire totem) has been reached and next is just to progress the level and see as much of the world as I can.

I would still like to be able to party up with other players and as much as I prefer to build my character a way I like I am concerned about terribly hindering a party or outright being an unacceptable character.

For my Ork Shaman I would like a 1H weapon and shield enhance and restoration build to work towards.

Thanks for any input.

That’s the beauty of the talent tree we have. You can build to suit your play style, and what benefits you and your regular running buddies the most.

I’m not cookie cutter and can hold my own DPS wise, and can tank pretty well when needed. And if it gets thick, I send out a heal or two. It’s working very well.

I recommend building your character to suit you. If it doesn’t work at 60, respec. The first time is only a gold, not much to lose by trying!

elemental shaman with shield is meta

I have never played horde so i’m not an expert at the specifics. But any shaman with a 2h in pvp is generally very easily dealt with if you want…

Shaman is the only class in pvp where you play true hybrid. Both doing large burst and healing/dropping totems for sup. That’s the meta

edit - to be clear pretty sure no enhance in that, but maybe low in the tree

30/0/21 is the top elemental build. You can go 31/0/20 and drop natures swiftness for elemental mastery but a instant cast is much better at 60 than a guaranteed 2 crits. 1h and shield is the way to do it at 60.

While leveling playing enhance 0-19 with fast 1h and shield is the best. at 20 you get 2h and go to 2h. 30 you pick up windfury and at 40 it’s generally agreed that swapping to elemental is faster leveling.

Enhance is the meme spec of shamans that really deserves to stay a meme spec. Deep resto or elemental is really the go to for shamans. Enhance is only good for totem twisting in raids or a nightfury proc.

Elemental can get a +healing gear set and heal raids just fine up to probably AQ40 from what I’ve gathered.

I love playing elemental shaman, but I’m more going for PvP end game.

I think other hybrid classes are better at being “hybrids” but shamans are extremely strong when played properly.

There are ‘optimal’ builds, sure. But instead of cookie-cutter classes, like you see in retail, where the only difference between two Demon-spec warlocks will be their gear and skill levels, you can adapt different things for your talent trees to play the way you want to play. You can even go for a ‘generalist’ build, if you want. Going for what fits your play style is more important than getting the ‘optimal’ path.

Optimal builds only matter in raiding. Do whatever you want in dungeons, PvP.

Maybe look at something like this:

Cool, yeah as long as I don’t end up joining a group and SEVERELY hindering everyone I would prefer to explore around with more fluffy play styles. Thanks

I love the talent tree, since as a bear tank I can’t PvP if my life depended on it. I put puts points into improved thorns while carrying around two damage reflect trinkets. This deals 65 damage to the attacker every time I’m hit. What this means with 10k armor is if a rogue/warrior attacks me while I’m in bear is that they run out of hp first even if I’m stun locked. If I attack them than not even bandages will save them.

I’d suggest going to wowhead and playing with their classic talent calculator. Get an idea what you’d like out of your character. Planning things out ahead of time will definitely help save you a lot of gold in the long run.

There are a whole bunch of cookie cutter builds. They are good starting points, but you can modify them to your liking.

On my priest I have a power infusion build that I use for raiding. I get to buff casters and have a larger mana pool, and I still do good healing from the +480 worth of healing gear I have. Usually in a raid with arcane intellect and blessing of kings my mana pool is about 8500, about 1500 more than other holy specced priests. Since I have a larger mana pool I do more dispels on certain boss mechanics because I can cast more of them before dipping into the mana I need to heal.

The cookie cutter build says to put points in force of will instead of the threat reducing talent. I opted to not do this since I do very little offensive attacks on that character beyond farming DM. It also said to not put points in improved renew, which I did, so if I miss a dispel the renew I throw out can recover most, or all of the health from the debuff that went out.
