I wasn’t sure what to title this. Would any faction tolerate/follow an undead leader? (or even a military official)
Thoras Trollbane for example, would his people have accepted him if he decided to rule or maybe advise Danath after being raised as a Death Knight?
The races in the Horde would probably be more open to this compared to Stromgarde.
The Alliance certainly woudn’t.
Sylvanas (an undead) served as the Horde’s warchief during Legion/BFA.
Yes. That has happened.
Of course the Horde followed Sylvanas.
But it has happened on the Alliance side as well. For example, Thassarian has lead Alliance troops.
At this point much of the military has served alongside Deathknights, so most of them would likely follow them. Civilian reaction would probably be more varied.
Some would accept him, some probably wouldn’t. Most probably would.
In his case advising seems much more likely in his case. Coming back in and taking rule would probably result in some kind of power struggle.
The Argent Crusade has a notable Forsaken officer since Vanilla, Leonid Barthalomew the Revered. The Argent Crusade has an understandably complicated relationship with death knights and the Ebon Blade, but Forsaken are welcome among their membership just as any other race would be and always have been, even back during the Argent Dawn days.
Tranquillien is led by Dame Auriferous and High Executor Mavren.
Technically, everyone who fought against the Lich King in Wrath had to tolerate an undead military official at some point. The Ashen Verdict was led by Tirion Fordring and Darion Mograine, and even those who didn’t work directly with the Ashen Verdict or the Ebon Blade would have eventually run into the fact that Darion was also working as one of Tirion’s top advisors and informants as the Ebon Watcher. Even if an individual didn’t know the Watcher’s true identity, the fact that he was undead would have been obvious to anyone who met him.
Its important to note, that forsaken is not a race, its a political affliation, leonid is not a forsaken he is just an undead, he in particular left in disgust. Pretty much all of the undead leadership outside of the horde came from either the Ebon blade, or unaffiliated undead like leonid, meryl etc
He was still freed by Sylvanas, so he’s part of the same general group/generation of undead as the original Forsaken (as in, former Scourge freed by Sylvanas), even if his loyalties lie with the Argents rather than the Undercity. In any case, there are other undead in the Argent Crusade, including Captain Rupert who explicitly identified as Forsaken, and the Argent Dawn allowed Forsaken into their ranks from the beginning. Meryl is something else entirely; he’s a mage from old Arathor who’s been undead for a few millenia for reasons completely unrelated to the Scourge, and therefore has never had any reason to associate with other undead.
all of the armies took orders from the four horsemen during shadowlands.
