The amount of spawns for thorium is so unbelievably low, or so i’ve been noticing.
Since hitting 60, i’ve made probably around 10-12 attempts to spend an hour or so just farming. I’ve tried Winterspring and Ungoro the most, also have tried briefly the plaguelands.
Always having find minerals on, always following the outskirts of the map where its mountainous, I average about 2 nodes PER HOUR.
Even when levelling i i constantly fell behind in my mining skill. There just wasn’t even nodes around to mine. But now i’m going out of my way to ONLY mine and to maximize the nodes i find, and theres just nothing there.
Since hitting 60 i have found ONE rich thorium vein. That’s hours of farming for one…one…ONE rich thorium vein.
I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing, or if i am just somehow looking in the wrong places (i can’t be?? where else is there??) At this rate i’ll get to 300 engineering sometime in 2020. Insane.
Thanks for your input or for just listening to me complain for a moment
Spawns are meant for a smaller amount of players of original WoW, which kinda of sucks with high pop servers. Tried farming Mountain Silversage a few days ago… Got 2 nodes after 4 circles of Ungoro and saw about 10 other people circling Ungoro picking herbs as well.
My server is lower pop and I’m finding plenty of Thorium. It helps to have gathermate so you can check on known node locations. I’ve been finding nodes a lot while just questing and keeping Find Minerals up. Got about 3 or 4 stacks of Thorium and haven’t hit 60 yet. Saving them up for when I’m ready to dump Mining and level Engineering.
The spawns aren’t low. There’s just a ton of people who mine the stuff. When you run your route, how many people are you seeing? in WS i see 4-5 person on avg running the mining/herb route. More than likely, other people are just mining the stuff before you see it.
I understand that there are others also farming, but the likelihood of me going out as many times i have just to have somebody infront of me grabbing the stuff every time is highly highly unlikely. I even go out at 1-2am server time when i can, and have tried at 7am once before going to work on a weekday.
I don’t see that mean people, and especially at those low hours i just mentioned, a /who pulls up 2-3 other people in the whole zone. I don’t think it’s a case of other people mining it all before me…coincidentally every time
I don’t know much about mining , definitely know nothing about thorium(I’m still making bronze) however I’ve noticed caves are usually chock full of mining nodes.
There are 2 FOR SURE spawns of rich thorium in winterspring in 2 areas that respawn every 15-20 minutes.
There’s also 1 for sure node near the timbermaw chieftain area east of the goblin town.
The ghost lake, and frostwhisper gorge. Check those areas. When i lvled (about 10 lvls ahead of the lvl avg). I farmed the ghost lake in winterspring and got probably around 30 total nodes over 2 lvls. (only 2 total arcane cystals).
when the rest of the server caught up, i rarely see either spawn now.
It REALLY seems to me, then, that respawns of ore/herbs should scale with # of players gathering them/speed at which they gather in the EXACT same way that respawns of mobs scale?
Why in the world would this not be a thing?
#nochanges bla bla bla. They do it with mobs. We’re not running around all the time never finding the mbos we need. Why can’t we find the ore/herbs we need?
layers helped to avg joe. it wasn’t ALL abuse as some claimed, but alas, layers are coming to an end, so yea == gathered resources will go up in price and become a little harder to get.
I think it’s a product of where the average player is right now. It seems to me most people are high 40s - just hitting 60. As such, most people are now leveling mining into the thorium area or leveling engineering for phase 2 (aka creating large demand for thorium).
I don’t have proof of that, just seems to be the case for me, friends, and guildies
You’ve been unlucky or have had stiff competition for nodes then.
That being said, There is substantially less veins of thorium in capped zones compared to when i played late in 1.13.
Before any accuses me of having rose tinted goggles or a failing memory I distinctly remember being able to do a lap of northern winterspring and finding more than 1 small and 2 rich thorium.
