Just tried to do a BG. Called out a mage for sitting in a weird spot on the edge of the map doing nothing the entire game. Turns out he’s in a premade, posts in chat to report me AFK. His entire team does so and while IN COMBAT I’m immediately removed from the BG and given deserter.
Game is broken, community is even more broken. WoW is not what it used to be…
Had this happen twice while I was leveling my rogue, once on my lock, and once again on my warrior.
Not sure how blizz would fix… But yeah.

Its nothing new, I’ve been kicked from groups for calling people out like that since vote to kick has been a thing.
It sucks, but there’s not much that can be done about it.
This has to be very new though, as up until BFA if you were reported AFK enough you only got a debuff where if you don’t enter combat in 30 seconds or so you’re removed. Not, 5 people report you and immediately you’re removed regardless of being presently engaged in PVP combat…
I dunno man. I pissed off an entire 40 man Isle of Conquest and finished the game just fine. A mage tried to be clever and started saying H, A, N, etc… in chat. I had lead for some reason so I /rw “Mage says DOCKS!”.
Gates open, the group goes Docks. Hilarious. Insta loss for sure. Mage starts raging a bit, saying “Go hangar! Lead is trollin’!”, so I pass lead to the Mage, and then /rw again saying “Mage says DOCKS!”. Mage responds “Stop listening to the lead!”.
But now he’s lead. So I point out he’s the leader.
I got rage whispers, and yes we lost that game. They were calling to report me AFK. Didn’t happen.

I remember BG’s in which sooooo many people were afK I would leave and join another. Most times half the group was afk, the other might as well be with the amount of complaining they did. I think back then, the player would just be flagged, not removed from the BG and just simply not receive Honor points.
Would have loved to be in a premade with only one person afk during those days.
By comparison, the system is better than it was, not perfect in that the potential for abuse it there, but it’s better to be able to remove, than just flag and deal with dead weight.
Worst afk moment for me, I fell through the map in WSG, could see the battle raging above me, was called a hack and cheat because I couldn’t be targeted and reported afk.
Because I was locked in battle, I couldn’t hearth and try to get back in…so I went afk as accused until the battle ended and my toon freed. Wish they could have removed me that day…stoopid old WSG map with its holes!

this stuff has been going on since the afk thing was first put in. this isn’t new and if one instance of people being a jerk to you sends you to the forums declaring everything “broken” then you’ve got a rough road ahead.

Best route of recourse here I feel is to round up a group to queue with and use the same mechanic to kick exploiters and do-nothings.
I participated in a Korrak’s Revenge match, and we had just lost. The Defeat screen was up and I got removed with the 2 minute timer running, and received a 15 minute deserter debuff. This is wrong.
Blizzard please fix this abuse of the kick system.
It’s deeply annoying to see someone running around the instance calling out afk.
Just play the game and don’t worry about others. The moment someone starts calling out others I immediately click vote kick.
Not everybody who goes afk is being a sponge. Sometimes there is a good reason, really cruel to slap someone with a deserter buff when you don’t know the circumstances.
It’s cost you 50 cents a day to play, chill out.

There is nothing wrong with giving someone the benefit of the doubt.
So, yeah, if you are THAT guy who is more worried about what others might be doing instead of contributing yourself you are getting a taste of your own arbitrary medicine.

I find it really weird that some of the same players who have been throwing temper tantrums in the other threads about mages popping portals in AV and them catching deserter are making jokes in this thread. lol nice. Hypocrisy at its finest.
I uh… really? The hypocrisy is you saying they should be ignored despite us not liking it, but when we do something you don’t like you report. Its how we play dude. Just play the game and don’t worry about others.
eh, I think people who actively AFK in group content should absolutely get reported afk and kicked.
Just like I think people who throw up portals to trick others in the group are being trolls.
but I also think getting all bent out of shape like the OP did and doing the whole “woe is me, mah community!” act is a bit melodramatic.

I must have not made my comment clear.
I find it odd that some of the same players in this thread have made comments like “lol don’t snitch”, about the OP when the OP is trying to give the raid group a heads up on players who are actually afk but also rage in the mage portal threads when players are telling them “lol don’t click the portal”.
These players encourage others to abuse the report AFK mechanic against mages when they join an AV but laugh at the OP here for getting kicked from people abusing the exact system.
if I wouldn’t be suspended for it I would call them out and link their posts from the portal threads but it’s not worth it.
The WoW “community” sucks. People like you are proof.
And I don’t care that this is a necro. Google brought up this result when searching “wow report afk being abused.”
I was alt tabbed for a bit, in the starting cave in AV. I got back in the game when team was halfway across the map. Some idiot says “report the two priests in cave afk.” Someone else was also in the cave with me. As I was literally making my way across the road by that point, I was instantly removed from the bg. They obviously either didn’t check the map, or the map was bugged and still showing me in the cave when I clearly was not.
Too many WoW players are happy to spam the report afk button without any second thought. The feature should be removed.
