This would have been less boneheaded of a decision if we were back a few expansions ago, like in Mists of Pandaria where it was always safe to use the roads, and even when you didn’t, if you kept your wits about you it was possible to avoid aggro-ing random crap in the world.
Flash forward to Legion where roads are no longer safe and mob density has been ramped up - and then to Argus, with mob density so ridiculously high the only way to get from A to B for lesser-geared characters (especially when your world quest was in "today’s mandatory-group zone and too bad if you’re playing by yourself at 3am) was to either switch to a tank spec or pray, and then die, your way through.
Taliesin and Evitel were mentioning the other week that mob density on Nazjatar is even higher than Argus.
Because this way, they can force mount equipment on us and continue to shove this game back into the dark ages, instead of moving forward and creating content around existing perks and abilities.
Considering that the developers have access to the metrics, and you don’t. I would think they know better. All the whiners on these forums and social media don’t amount to any statistical significance.
jeez more I hear bout the changes in bfa more I don’t feel desire to resub, I was taking a break since feb and with all changes to portals, water strider, classes, daze im feeling less wanting to come back its just going downhill.
This is to ensure that the new mount equipment feels and remains impactful. It can’t be as potent when we have ways to replicate it’s abilities in other ways, so they’re going to gently remove those other ways.
The problem is that they can’t make it just about Resounding Protection. If they do, then their hands are tied the next time they want to give us an absorb ability and keep mount equipment useful. It just doesn’t work unless you target the entire effect itself.
This is also known as finding solutions that need problems, and thus creating artificial problems so that your solutions are valid.
I’m fine with this sort of change if it means I have to make a more meaningful choice regarding mount equipment, but I’m not sure if anybody asked - why do I have to make that choice? Why is this now suddenly an issue after years of no complaints?
And neither do you. You have to prove the null hypothesis wrong, and you can’t. You have no empirical evidence besides meaningless social media babble.
Because they(Ion) absolutely hated the water strider and looked for every opportunity to nerf it. Hence this entire convoluted “mount equipment” system that has the added benifit(for them) to further limit players movement options
I don’t want to have to make “meaningful choices” about how I travel. The correct solution is, at best, to make mount equipment apply to individual mounts and leave everything else alone.
At best this is anti-player behavior intended to create obstacles. At worst they actually believe this is a good system. If the first, their colors are showing. If the second, they’re deluding themselves into believing that “meaningful choices” belong in every facet of the game. Not everything needs to have strict choices built into it.
I’d like to make the choice of say, putting an anti-daze piece of equipment on my Sky-Golem on my Herbalist. A piece of water-walking equipment on my mechano-hog. I think that could be fun if it means that I’m allowed to customize how I travel for certain mounts.
However, I wasn’t aware that you could only have one-piece equipped at a time, and they are consumed on use. That does seem pretty backwards.
I’d be fine with mount equipment if it meant that I could attach them to individual mounts.
