Absolutely loving Classic

Now that I would like very much. I’m all about choices for everyone. That’s something that Blizzard has been taking away from us over time and I hate it.

Enjoying playing through all the TBC and beyond content I missed but I do miss the pace of Classic, the talent trees, etc.

Good for you?

My rose colored glasses were broken by repeated tedium rocks to the face so I went back to retail. What was new and exciting 15 years ago is old and tedious now…but I’m glad you like it.

I played it for three days, remembered why I loathed it before.

*Boring and monotonous quests that have zero flow and are mish-mashed all throughout each zone with no coherency whatsoever.

*Boring dungeons that offer nothing fun. Spamming frost bolt 913 times in a row is dull gameplay to me.

*Having to wait forever to form a leveling dungeon group because no one wants to spend 30 minutes walking (most people won’t have a mount) to the dungeon to summon the rest.

*Boring raids that aren’t innovative, or fun, just boring raids with no mechanics and resistance gear being your actual mechanics.

*Boring rank systems, having to trudge back and forth to get rank 4 of a spell that already hits like a wet noodle to increase its power by .0002%

*No transmog system, wearing ugly armor that will never match until you maybe get a set.

*Reagents needed for every thing. Want to float down with slowfall? Farm feathers first for 2 hours so you can get 2 feathers from 87 mobs you killed and have god awful drop rates.

*Many specs are pretty useless when leveling and in some cases, an absolute nightmare.

*Having to eat, drink or bandage after killing two mobs, if you’re lucky.

*Many zones having almost no quests. Azshara had literally next to any quests. Other zones like Dustwallow Marsh and others were barren wastelands.

*Graveyards in obscure places, so if you died in the Barrens, may spend 4 to 5 minutes running back to your corpse.

*Pets, mounts weren’t account bound, you had to literally put each mount in your backpack, same for pets.

I could name easily 200 more things that makes it trash for me.

Maybe you don’t care about those things, good, hope you enjoy it. Don’t be surprised if you get bored of it sooner than you realized.

Honestly, Classic has a lot of mechanics that I wish newer games would have. I came back a long time ago because of that. The class immersion is really awesome, you have to work to get stuff so it feels like an achievement to do anything, without feeling like dark souls. It’s challenging without being punishing. Honestly, I think the simplicity of a lot of the mechanics help make it fun.

I kind of wish we had a new MMO, or a good hero/villain life sim that took the great lessons of making stuff challenging and immersive from classic and took out the stuff that hasn’t aged well. That’s the only thing I dislike more about classic than retail is that I feel like a lot of tasks in classic break the flow of the game.

Running everywhere until lvl 40? Fine, especially when I haven’t seen the zones in 15 years or whatever. On the other hand, quest hubs that are poorly optimized for quest order so you have to go back to the town 20 times when 15 would have been fine and changed nothing? Kind of stupid and I’m glad newer games are slowly starting to grow out of the “quest hub” mentality. Running back to sell loot or turn in quests or whatever, while not doing anything on the way back, has never been fun.

Never played Vanilla originally. Started halfway through BC. I became an “on and off again” player at the end of Cata and stopped for good during Draenor. Been playing classic since release, and it’s everything I wish retail still was.
