I have a friend who is looking to play Shadowlands but needs a new pc. What is the minimum he would need to run effectively? He does not have a lot of money.
Please tell me where to send him, and what he needs to look at brand-wise.

That’s a big question. What level of graphics quality is he looking for? AMD products tend to be cheaper than Intel and Nvidia. Is he looking to build his own piece by piece, or buy a pre-built name-brand such as these?https://www.newegg.com/Gaming-Desktops/SubCategory/ID-3742
The computer I use is a piece by piece system that I built back in 2014. I upgraded the GPU in 2016. WoW still runs great. I have not noticed any difference in performance with Shadowlands beta.
I would not recommend someone spending $500 on a new PC, I would like to start with what they currently have and go from there.
If they have something right now that’s currently ancient I would not recommend a $500 pc because you could totally get half way decent parts but skimp on power supply or ram and then having issues on issues and maybe last them a year or less.
To that end, Stay away from Walmart brand computers. Save up and have someone trust worthy build it .
You need to define “effectively” and “He does not have a lot of money.” otherwise the whole effort is meaningless. I’m assuming he has a 1080p 60hz monitor but are we talking graphic setting 1, 2, 3, etc., and FPS of 30,40,50, etc.,? Logical increments posts a WoW guide for BoA (slightly outdated but still good) that your friend may want to look at just to get ideas on parts for a build and how to maximize performance. Hokushin has also posted some $500 builds for WoW in the hardware forum that are pretty good.
Did a $400 system today! Can be done and runs shadowlands well!
