Hey guys, I want to talk about loot. Specifically I want to talk about weapons. It seems like these are the rarest things to find. About a week or two before 9.2 launched I decided to change my main to Rogue. So since then I’ve been farming M+ in hopes that I get a weapon all while improving my IO/dungeon rating. It’s been so effin’ long man and zero weapon drops.
This got me thinking. What if there was a vendor in game that sold decent gear, weapons, trinkets, etc for an amount of valor (or a new currency)? Wouldn’t it be amazing? The lack of deterministic rewards in current WOW really hurts the game in my opinion.
It’s on purpose it seems to leave people empty handed. They know they’re not respecting people’s time and acknowledge it, but continually troll people with terrible droprates. They’re too scared of user engagement dropping that they’re still sabotaging their own game and spitting in people’s faces with these tactics.
The Great Vault is instead of gear drops in raids and dungeons. It’s not in addition to. They could have also added in bad luck protection in the form of using excess currencies to reroll it, but they clearly don’t want that happening either.
More like attaching player power to casual grinding that involves a half hour long walk through grey corridors feels like a spit in the face of a chore.
Also, gear being gated behind having to purchase things held hostage by Auction House Bots will always feel like a slap in the face. It’s one of the reasons I refuse to buy the current 262 craftable BOEs.
Also they need to keep things simple. I don’t engage with conduits at all. Too much noise.
Went the entirety of Cata without getting a weapon drop from any raid . Had a crafted gun teh entire expansion . Was fun , the thrill of looting the bosses was always there , hopeing that the gun or bow would finally drop.
One thing worse than the bland feeling is trying to razzle dazzle people with complicated systems they don’t want to deal with. For the entirety of 9.1 I had zero tier sets and intentionally ignored it. I used m+ dungeon loot only.
Obfuscating power scaling through multiple interactions feels like absolute garbage. Especially since most options are garbage and you get penalized for selecting outside the one or two “good” options.
I can’t even be bothered to “set” or change conduits. I think I’m still using whatever settings I plugged in half a year ago.
What would have been nice is if you could have made legendary weapons as well as just clothes, rings and necks. If you could have made one of each of all the types of weapons, it would have given a real boost to legendary crafting and let players fill in slots that they couldn’t obtain in other ways. It would also have allowed players to make a legendary item that wouldnt clash with tier gear.
While Ive never liked the legendary crafting system in this expansion (the way of doing it in Legion was a lot simpler and more fun) at least that would have meant more choice for players, and we can always use that.
It feels like garbage to have to deal with AH Bot bad actors holding things hostage. Blizzard has continually proven they are inept or just outright ignoring the issue.
This means every time they design some mandatory lego that is intended to be sold on the AH, they’re making the game feel terrible through and through by then.
I dunno, it wasnt bad in Legion. The crafted legendaries were expensive but not prohibitively so and there was no real exhaustive upgrading of crafting crap that is involved in this version. For the Legion ones it was mostly that it took a bit of time to be able to make them and then to collect the materials for them.
Gear that is crafted has always been able to be sold and bought on the AH (except when its BoP). I see nothing wrong with that in principle because if nothing else it allows people who cant make the items themselves to have a way of getting them. The idea is not to make them impossibly expensive to make.
The idea is to make the lego a part of the timegated story line, instead of mandatory buying off AH or going out of your way with troll tier profession levelling just to obtain the lego.
aka, what they’re doing with the Belt of Unity.
Anyways, every patch it seems like I’m fighting the developers, as it’s in their interest to antagonize and troll players into wasted effort, as they seem only concerned with finding ways to not give what people want, while baiting grinding.
I have nothing good to say about their systems design, and I started WoW a year ago.
Im not even sure what you mean by your first paragraph, however, moving along. Let me say that I dont like the legendary crafting system this expansion (if I didnt make that clear). It is incredibly costly to rank up even just one piece, and the idea of ranking them all up is insane. Its probably the worst system of design for a profession I’ve ever seen and it favoured those who had a lot of gold to be able to do it, rather than those who enjoyed professions (as I always have). I will never, until the end of my WoW playing days, complete the crafting professions in this expansion because of that. Which annoys me no end because I have always tried to do that. They utterly ruined my crafting experience this expansion.
As I said in my comment, I have no issue with crafted items being for sale on the AH in principle. My issues is that the incredibly expensive higher rank legendaries are priced that way because of a market deficiency. Few players on any server have had the gold to invest in ranking up legendaries so they corner the market and can charge what they want. And thats where ActiBlizz’s ulterior motive comes in: the Token. Because if people want the things, they often have to buy a gold token or five to be able to afford them.
And thats just a gouge and I hate it. And I’ve been playing for 13 years
No. We had Justice vendors in Cata. Knowing it would take me 25 runs to get the pieces I wanted wasn’t fun. It didn’t feel good to farm out a set of justice or valor gear.
Suggesting that we bring that back and make it how we obtain gear in the game is just not what people actually want. The legendary belt they hand you for doing the ZM story quests is just another example of this. People don’t care if obtaining powerful gear is deterministic. They care about what they have to do to get it and the majority of the community atm is extremely negative and doesn’t want to have to do anything in order to obtain rewards.
It used to be just an extremely ironic joke about lazy players just wanting Blizzard to mail them epics but then they would also complain about having to walk to the mailbox to collect them. Honestly this is what a lot of players really want now. They want to be constantly showered with new and powerful loot for doing next to nothing. But you can’t make a game out of that.
I’d prefer being able to do low keys to help others as part of the grind routine. The 750 weekly valor cap is back, so that’s kinda killing it.
I get that they’re trying to throttle grinds so it’s not instant. They could do it better… like cap it at the valor upgrade NPC rather than at the currency.
Weapons have always been notoriously difficult to get in this game precisely because of how important they are. Everything was a “hunter weapon” for a reason.
You could have gotten (or can still get) 233 weapons from Korthia if your luck is really that bad. Or farm up some PvP stuff.
This is what we asked for. The old Valor badge system.
What we got was Valor Corrupt a Wish.
To me, this sounds like the outlier opinion. Everyone I know loved the fact that if they couldn’t get a drop, they had Valor to fall back on. It was great.
It’s also what people asked for around here, as well.
It definitely is.
I also dislike the old valor spam route though.
If we ever get that kind of vendor back, I want it to work like Titan Residuum from BfA, because at least that encourages you to do content appropriate for your current gear / skill to get relevant rewards, unlike JP/VP back in the day.
nah, it’s all good with me, I’ve learned to do damage with a bloody steak knife.
Sure, I’d love to have the runecarver 4000 deluxe model, it slices and dices… but reality is, everything from my gloves to my fine boots helps me use the steakknife better.
I’m kinda ashamed I didn’t think of it. Why get a better blade… improve your bloody steak knife, with a exquisite new ring. Two rings, and a new belt buckle too.
