What was the point? The Elven starting area is still the old Tree, there’s no quests or anything of any particular interest at the new Tree, so what was all the work for? Same with retaking Gilneas, there’s still nothing there. Do they even have any plans for them?
So we don’t have Nelfs/Worgens being destitute in Stormwind.
The old tree, Teldrassil, which is the Night Elf starting point exists at an earlier point in Azeroth’s time. If you take your current 'toon and go to Dark Shore you will see that the old tree (stump actually) is burned down.
However you can go talk to Zidormi in Dark Shore and get sent back to the earlier time then you can go to the Night Elf World Tree, Teldrassil where you will find the Night Elf starting zone.
Yes, I’m aware of the gold dragons, I am not new. My question was why did they have us go through all the quest-chains to establish the new lands if they’re not going to use them.
Are you asking a lore question or a game question? From a lore point of view, it’s the Night Elves new home. From a game point of view, it was a task the “champions” had to resolve and may come back at some time in the future.
Well I think the best way to answer this is why do we have the likes of Zidormi in the zone to revert the zone back to how it was.
Because of the many times in the past Blizzard has removed a dungeon/zone from the game or drastically change it and there has always been massive pushback from the players about it.
So since WoD they have added Zidormi in zones which they drastically change for an event so players can go back to the old zones and still do the quests etc.
Recently Blizzard has also been re-adding old dungeons that have been removed from the game like Vanilla Scholomance and all 4 wings of Vanilla Scarlet Monestary.
Blizzard didn’t want to redo the NE starting zone. Nowadays it’s just an alternative to Exile’s Reach anyway.
It brought the Nelf storyline to a closure. That’s it.
When they established the new Night Elf zone I said I was a bit surprised that no one else had noticed it was now an expansion feature.
I could see it as a zone for housing as they keep expanding. Apart from that I vaguely remember some dialogue in game about how nelves want to keep working on Darkshore and other places, so I don’t know if that’s meant to be a hint about future questlines involving old/new zones and they keep building up the new world tree, or if that was just their way of ending the chapter on a positive note. Would love to see more additions, though.
So Blizzard could pretend they were Game of Thrones but better because they destroyed beloved characters and places.
So Blizzard didn’t have to spend time and resources updating the graphics of Teldrassil or the Undercity, their starting areas or their starting zones.
So Blizzzard could make interacting with Teldrassil and Undercity confusing and inconvenient so more players are funneled thru Exile’s Ranch, Stormwind and Orgrimmar.
None of this was about evolving the World to make it bigger and better and give the Night Elves an even cooler unique ‘treehouse’ or recreate Lordaeron City for the Undead, it was all about making the World smaller and more ‘streamlined’.
They needed a worgen heritage quest for the armor so they used it to push their ‘the alliance and horde are friends now’ and ‘isn’t Calia the bestest!’ narratives.
Unlikely.
I am not saying neither Bel’ameth nor Gilneas will ever be used for another questline, it is just unlikely Blizzard had any grand scheme for them… or that they will ever be functional parts of the World.
It’s sad too, especially for Gilneas. At least with Teldrassil you can back and experience a bustling Night Elf community; Gilneas is just dead.
ETA: this is actually Silverleigh, the forum is with me
can you still do the old shaman quest in scholo?
And paladin quest, and T0.5 braizer assuming you have the item needed to summon the bosses.
It would have made more sense if the burning of teldrassil was a part of the night elf intro questline
I don’t consider Furor’s last sad gasp for relevance in WoW to be canon.
Likewise I do not regard the literary terrorism that was Shadowlands to be anything but bad writing. Like Sylvanas voiced lines in BFA, I ignore and muted them all due to their character implausibility, and the extreme use of plot armor that bordered on what a roleplayer would call “Metagaming”. So I just use Zidormi.
Teledrassil? It’s just fine. As it’s always been. Sylvanas was executed by Saurfang before she got to do any of that. Nathanos died of grief. Undead Night Elves do not exist. Neither do “Mag’har” or “Lightforged” Warlocks. That is all that needs to be said.
The End.
dooooooope! i probably have the stuff buried in my bank, i never get rid of cool stuff like that
now to figure out how to unlock old scholo…
The point was to wrap up and move beyond the burning of Teldrassil storyline that had been haunting the narrative since the start of BfA.
It was dumb to put in in the backwater of an expansion zone where it was sure to become another forgotten, barely used city. The cynic in me suspects it was done to placate those still upset about Darnassus, but as they want everything in SW/Org, they deliberately set it up somewhere where it wouldn’t get much use.
World trees were ruined in Legion. Remember when Nordrassil was a big deal because it was planted to conceal and contain the newly made Well of Eternity? Then Staghelm wanted a new tree, made a bunch of small trees with planted branches from Nordrassil as an experiment (hinterlands, duskwood, feralas and ashenvale), had a failed tree grow in Northrend, then grew Teldrassil, which was almost a failure in itself.
Then we get the Legion tree which apparently predates Nordrassil and is apparently super important for reasons? And now we have the new tree which was apparently vital for reasons?
Can we move away from big trees now?
You and me both.
My night elf has her hearthstone set to Teldrassil and my undead have theirs set to Undercity so they just bypass it all.
In my head canon, all of BfA and Sl was a nightscape created by N’zoth that certain characters were pulled into and manipulated while he attacked the real World. He was severely depleted by his efforts and, after they broke from his spell, was killed by Anduin, Sylvanas and adventurers but unfortunately in the aftermath, Sylvanas was lost somewhere between realms.
So yeah Teldrassil is fine. Undercity had an accident while fighting N’zoth’s minions but they are dead anyway so it isn’t like it bothers them, visitors just need to stay on the surface at the moment so that is where the council that was formed until Sylvanas turns back up resides.
In my headcanon, they along with Calia were corrupted and are now something else… (eerie music plays)… something unnatural.
