About the feral damage buff

When they recently buffed balance’s damage numbers, some people here (with more maths and ancient wisdom than me) pointed out that it was actually a higher % buff than the actual buff itself, because they also removed a previously existing invisible debuff to balance’s damage numbers. I don’t remember the specific #'s for the buff, but if the official hotfix was like a 16% then the actual effect was more like 24% or something.

So, my question is, is something similar happening today with feral? Was there a previous hidden blanket damage reducer to our numbers that is also going away with this 8% buff, or will it really be 8%?

Not complaining here–I mean, I would love to see the raid utility thing sorted out but I won’t scoff at an 8% (or higher?) Damage boost.

Anyways, that’s my question.

Interesting…so whether or not it has an extra damage buff hidden on top, it might be going away soon anyways? Haha, shoot.

No, I don’t think it’ll be going away. Giving a buff that helps, but doesn’t really change much at the same time, would cause an outrage

The patch notes weren’t very clear. But if this works like our last “5%” buff, which was actually a 3.5%-4.0% buff. This is not a real “8%” buff in the sense that our overall damage will go up by 8%.

The reason for this is that the buff applies to an existing hidden aura buff that affects all of our feral moves. The hidden buff is currently set at 20%, so this 8% would bring it to 28%.

This is not really a change from 100 to 108 therefore, it’s a change from 120 to 128, which is a change +6.25%, not a change of +8.0%

And, since we are on the subject, this change applies only to our feral abilities. It does NOT apply to using Convoke in Boomkin form, nor does it apply to white damage, or direct damage from potions, enchants, and trinkets.

This change WILL scale a trinket like spyglass or loaded dice but will NOT scale a trinket like spines of drest or the mechagon bike.

This change WILL scale the effectiveness of stat potions, but will NOT scale the benefit of potions like unbridled fury (and its SL equivalents).

Depending on what gearing choices you make, your affected damage will be somewhere between 80% and 90% of your overall damage on a typical boss fight.

This “8%” change is therefore only a REAL change of about 5.0%-5.6% to your overall damage throughput.

Adjust your expectation and adulation as appropriate.

I always appreciate the detailed way you break this crap down, thanks. Well, it’s better than nothing and I am glad for something, but I guess we are still griping on the druid forums for a bit then eh?

Feral and Balance are within 2% of each other after this change. If only Blizzard decided to give Feral something special, since Moonkin has ALL of the utility Feral has along with some extra Moonkin specific stuff. Which sucks =(
