Personally, I’m not looking forward to it. For the latter, why they even bring it back in the first place? Couldn’t they instead have it be an alternate talent for BoJ?
Speaking of BoJ, I never understood the idea behind it. A blade popping from the ground? How does that fit the paladin fantasy? Shouldn’t it be either coming from the sky? Or a Cleave-like ability? I guess it fit for Tauren and Zandalari Paladins since its coming from the earth.
And I won’t argue whether or not Seraphim’s good or not. I just simply like its look, especially when used alongside Avenging Wrath/Guardian of Ancient Kings. Can they at least make a glyph to keep the hammer and shield?
I feel like for boj anyway, some of the devs played final fantasy tactics and thought the holy knights holy blade ability looked awesome. Has the same animation as boj basically.
I just the feel the absolute removal of Exorcism and the relegation of Radiant builds being “you do exactly the same thing but your AoE is slightly stronger” is just a massive oversight.
Just overall very thematically lacking in my opinion.
I really don’t understand why they removed exorcism! It was fun, I was really glad they brought it back. It wasn’t even required for other abilities in the talent tree so it wasn’t hurting anyone. People could just talent into it IF THEY WANT TO, completely optional. Now it’s gone again
What I really don’t understand is why people care so much about this 1 throwaway ability. Exorcism was just button bloat. If you miss it on your bar just make a macro for BoJ with the Exorcism icon.
It’s nostalgic. I like the animation, the sound, it’s an ability from the old days. It’s a different ability than blade of justice, completely. They aren’t the same thing at all. One is a big sword coming out of the ground, one is an exorcism pointed at a target with holy light. How is that the same thing? Also, when blade of justice is on cooldown, then you have another ability to do. Which is nice, especially if you have the crusader strike as passive talent.
If you don’t like it, don’t talent into it, it’s not hurting you by having it as an option. There’s no reason at all not to have it as an option.
Thats not exactly true. If a bad talent is infront of good ones your forced to take it. Also it had zero interaction with our core kit. What they should just do is let you glyph boj to look and sound like exo.
Either way the new bov is infinitely better than exo.
You weren’t forced to take it though. It didn’t have any other talents under it that required you to get exorcism first. So those that want to have two different abilities, to use one of them while the other is recharging, they can do that if they CHOOSE to. It’s an option.
Lmao I don’t necessarily agree with the whole statement but this was funny.
I mean if it’s the optimal ability (which I believe it largely was) that’s not really true.
Having the whole Consecration/Exorcism mechanic outside of the standard rotation just wasn’t well handled, and being strongly encouraged in that direction due to balancing is not necessarily fun.
Yeah this always the easy but “everyone’s happy” solution.
Personally I would have liked to have seen it become a burn finisher or something for a Radiant build but sadly the rework wasn’t really up for any innovation lol.
So then why not make it as optimal, but keep it for those that want to use it? I like having both boj and exorcism. I feel like I have way less going on, it’s less fun when I have less abilities. Plus, it was exciting having that classic ability back again.
I don’t think it really works quite like that, I don’t think the intention is ever to just make “bad” talents that are suboptimal.
So whether it is optimal or not comes down to a lot of other factors.
The glyph option Sil suggested is one that Ret players have been throwing around often and honestly would be the easiest way to at least make it available for players.
Although if you wanted it to fill out the rotation that doesn’t really address your problem.
Surely you’re not having too much space in your rotation even with TS on PTR?
I am glad its gone. It was neat while it was here and it did offer some nice AoE DoT damage but beyond that it was little more than 2 crusader strikes worth of single target damage on a 20 second CD. It was bloat and it needed to be done away with. Prior to 10.0.7 ret had about 13-15 core rotational abilities while other classes had about 5-8, not including personal CDs. Lets also remember that Exo was very good ba k in the day because of a proc that boosted its damage and made it instant cast. I will say that if Exo was redesiged to function like Vanquishers Hammer from the Necrolord Covenant then maybe it would have a seat at the table.
Why would you possibly be glad it’s gone though? It’s not bloat if it’s an optional talent. No talent required exorcism to be taken first, it wasn’t given by default, so it’s not bloat. You’re not forced to use it or have it if you don’t want it. You’re a fool.
Im the fool? No, i believe the fool is you. If it was an “optional” talent, then why was it that nearly every ret paladin used it? Because it filled the gap. Prior to the rework our rotation had gaps, large gaps. The gaps were so large that, at times, ret players would just sit with nothing to do for seconds at a time. Exorcism was a band-aid that amounted to about 2 crusader strikes worth of damage.
