About Philosopher's Stone use in TWW

New expansion and a new specialization category for Alchemy: Thaumaturgy

Now, why should we have to go after crafting an alchemy stone to be able to use the craft of this new specialization. This stone uses a spark.

Or, why should we always have to carry items from past expansions in order to be able to use the profession in the current expansion, when Enchanters can buy the “Enchant Rod” directly from the npc without having to go hunting for recipes from past expansions?

In Dragonflight I didn’t need the alchemy stone, so I don’t have and can’t recover any deleted items from the past expansion to be able to craft. So I’ll have to upgrade Alchemy from Classic in order to create an item and use my profession in the current expansion.

Put the same treatment that enchantment receives and put an item in the alchemy npc where we can buy a stone and not have to resort to such methods of having to upgrade the classic profession.

I believe Dragonflight did need a stone for transmutes, but I fully agree there should be a stone you can buy from the alchemy vendor that acts as “uber basic nearly useless but gets the job done” stone.

Yeah, i’m with a broken profession now, because no way i will use my spark to craft a stone just to transmut. It’s too much

My theory (and it might just be a consipiracy) is that professions are now made with warbands in mind. They sort of expect you have crafting/gathering alts at least early on to support other crafters. I could be wrong but that’s what it feels like.

Materials are the least of the problems in this situation.

Having to spend a spark to create an alchemy stone item just to transmute is a very big choice for the player, and as I’ve already mentioned, they’ve solved this situation with Enchant.

Right… but what I’m saying is- I wonder if they just expect you’ll use x spark on an alt because it doesn’t matter. Like Transmute is the “If you have an alt” Or “My main is a crafter type of spec.”

If you only have one character it feels awful;, but if they’re designing it with warbands and people leveling multiple characters with overlapping crafts, I can see why they would.

It’s very much a tinfoil hat theory and doesn’t change the frustration of WHY do they need a spark? But it’s the only reason I can see them doing it.

Any Philosophers Stone works, not just this expansions.

Go buy 3 Golden Lotus off the AH for 15g, fly to Klaxxivess and train Pandaren Alchemy and the Zen Alchemist Stone, and make yourself a stone.

I know stones from older expansions work. But why?

All other professions you buy what you need from the profession’s npc. Only alchemy has this peculiarity.

Why not treat it like they do enchantments?

Because you only need it for Transmutation. It’s the way it’s always been.

And they have obviously never changed anything about professions …

So, then create a version where you don’t have to spend expensive materials to create a trinket that you can use or not. Put in a recipe to create a stone from the current expansion that’s only good for that, not one that requires a spark and various other expensive materials.

There are multiple options to choose from. Pick which ever one suits you.

This right here. Cheapest way to get a stone. And dead easy

Grind the rep for gadgetzan and make the classic stone and realize this game is trivial and can be played passive with a rolling pin cause of people just like you.

Yes it requires a spark if you are a new player. Just like every expansion in the past. Its really expensive to get your alchemy stone but it will be good forever. Not such a bad deal yall have a lot of opinions for being first time alchemists on apparently fresh accounts. Maybe when you are in the land of “i dont understand” its you lacking something and not the game needing to conform for you.

You mean like… the other version from past expansions?

This is such a weird complaint. You already acknowledged the solution. It takes 5 minutes to go grab a philosopher’s stone-- both for MoP and classic ones, as both are cheap and easy to make.

Obviously it’s weird but it’s a complete nonissue.

My alchemist thankfully knew how to craft a simple Philosopher’s Stone already from his classic profession.

So I just got the mats and made one real quick because I must have lost my old one down a drain or something. It was weird but refreshing. I personally like old-world things, so I’m biased.

How do we get one of these? i cant find them anywhere. do we buy them somewhere or create it with alchemy?

Not sure if you saw this from a previous response, but it was super easy and accurate. I just made the philosopher stone from MoP and have been able to use it for transmutes.

…and you have to lvl classic alchemy to 50 before even being able to craft the philosopher’s stone.
