I was dueling a friend and kept getting knocked out of stealth at least 20 yards from the abom. What is the actual range on the debuff because I couldn’t find anything with my google-fu?
Abomination firstly has a 40 yard casting range so it can be summoned anywhere in this range. This is the same range that hunters have as most other spells have a max range of 30 yards so the extra 10 yards is important to take in to account.
However, this is not what is actually knocking players out of stealth when an Abomination is initially summoned. The actual effect which is causing this is the spell called Disease Cloud.
The important part about this spell is the very last part which says
affecting all those nearby with Virulent Plague.
So in terms of what range is being used when an Abomination is summoned it’s actually the range of Virulent Plague which comes from the initial Disease Cloud during summoning. This spell has a range of 100 yards (vision) but it also has several flags that are important to note
- Ignore Line of Sight
- Do Not Display Range
- Cannot miss
- Bypass Visibility Check
So the spell has a 100 yard casting range but due to flags you can’t see its actual area of effect range but this will likely be a minimum of 40 yards and anywhere up to an including the 100 yard spell range.
The final kicker for any stealth class is the other couple of flags which means it ignores Line of Sight and actually bypass any in game Visibility checking mechanisms. Then the final nail in the coffin is the fact the effect cannot MISS so if you’re in the Area of Effect for Virulent Plague activated from the Disease Cloud on the Abomination you’re getting knocked out of stealth because you get the Virulent Plague Debuff.
Hopefully that helps you understand what is happening and why the Abomination is the bain of any stealth class if used correctly in PvP.
Nice to know. this will help a lot in protecting flags from those pesky stealthies!
