Ability/Loot Lag on Oceanic Servers Despite Normal Latency

I did raise a ticket, this is what I got:

"Howdy Petre,

Technical Specialist Ekield here!

Sounds like you are getting lag in WoW and weren't sure what is causing it.

From what we've found, it's playing on the Oceanic WoW servers that is causing it. This is definitely something that we are investigating further and working with our technicians to get resolved.

The main forum thread where everything is being discussed can be found here:

https://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20767557791

For now we do not have a workaround or fix, but feel free to keep an eye on that thread for any updates.

Thanks!"

So after a month they don't have a clue. Too bad, I like BFA, raids just started and I cant do !@#$. getting really pissed here
In my opinion Blizzard are just playing for time. Doesnt seem to be any real serious attempts to sort this, other than get the players to analyse it for them.
For me at my own cost I moved off the server. Will probably move back once the lag has settled.
Quite sad that paying customers have to pay more to leave a problem server after a month long thread with over 1,000 entries.
Its the same for a lot of players on US and EU as well. Blizzard is doing nothing and saying nothing to fix the problem. Incredibly sad. I get stutters everywhere when zoning, when looting, when fighting, ect. Then sometimes its perfect, but it ALWAYS returns.
Yeah, the lag was awful last night. It's really not acceptable for it to be going on for four weeks like this.
@teylari, not sure if you'll catch this but your connection to your router is bad. You might make sure to power cycle your network equipment and test connecting wired if you don't already connect that way. If that doesn't fix it I'd start a new thread to troubleshoot.

Hi there Friends,

We are still working on this and gathering information. Please keep getting back to us with these reports as you see the problem on your realms.

To make information gathering more efficient, please tell us:
  • The Zone you are in
  • The character you are on
  • How long ago you had the issue
  • The Realm the affected character is on
  • If you are in a group or not
  • Is war mode on or off

You are not forgotten, we want to help here and are working hard on finding an answer for all of you. We have had a few fixes already that has resolved the problems for some, not all of our users.

* Note, this is for our users on Oceania Servers, if you are on another server, please make a new thread *

/Nathardrick

* Edit to add war mode option

Is this a cop out? it affects all my characters in BFA zones every weekday after like 3pm and it gets worse until like 9pm. Weekends? almost 24/7 (Frostmourne) both WM on and off, grouped or not grouped. its worse when other players are close by or hitting the same mobs.
This lag does not exist INSIDE dungeons etc so it is obviously something to do with the outside world sharding/scaling, maybe try to have less shard balancing transferring us from shard to shard or just decrease the player number in each shard!? it seems the OCE servers you use can't handle the numbers in peak on each shard.

I don't even bother with WQ in the afternoon because its so !@#$ing painful to be out in the world.

yeah occasionally my router connection isnt great but it has never affected game play and my router is not designed to go cactus just at peak times , and I do power cycle if im having network issues just to ensure my connection is stable as well as running local and non local speed tests to check my dl/ul speed.

I think thr WinMTR is biased because its only testing your connection to the Syndey server not the connection between the sydney server and the US server your currently sharded too.

Not sure how these wiMTRs are doing anything other than filling a void of confusion that blizz currently has. Almost like chatter for the sake of filling up silence
This is affecting my friends (~6 of them) and my guild of ~40 actives.

Same symptoms. Only BFA zones are affected, and usually during peak times.

You can see the bad connection to your router in the first hop on your WinMTR. With a worst response of 250+ ms.
Any updates?

Apart from the head buried in the sand canned responses, then no.

I’ll be adding my own winmtr result to the pool this evening I’m sure.

Someone already analysed the results somewhere earlier in the thread using wireshark and gave them all the information they should have needed to investigate and provide a response about this issue.
Latency issues are still occuring. It does feel like overall they are becoming less frequent. I have been experiencing this lag less, however when it does kick in, it's just as severe as usual.

Zone: Drustvar
Character: Schmuckules
When: Currently experiencing, fluctuations. One moment it's fine, then the lag hits again.
Realm: Nagrand (Oceanic)
Group: No, Solo WQ
Warmode: Off

You should ask them all to post. So Blizzard can get a better idea of the severity of the issue.
Zone: Boralus Harbour
Character: Aehl
When: Now, fishing delay up to 2 secs, 2 sec loot lag, lag on casting.
Realm: Aman'Thul(Oceanic)
Group: No. Fishing off pier.
Warmode: Off
Latency: 11.11

None of the MTRs provided so far show any network related issues. They show different ISPs, with different transit providers, connecting to Blizzard via different peering points etc. There are variations on everything, except the destination.

On top of that... the IP you've asked for the traceroute to isn't the IP of the realms we're playing on, so isn't 100% representantive. Yes it's in the same /24, but that doesn't mean it's taking the same path within the Blizzard network.

Looking at Wireshark while playing during the MTR below, I see latency of up to 500ms between the outbound packet from my PC and the response from the server. ICMP responses at the time are fine. I'm happy to send my PCAP to someone at Blizz if they'd like to see for themself

Has this been looked at by someone in a place of power that can make decisions?
I live in Perth and play on Oceanic realms. Latency to eastern states servers low 60's. When the lag occurs those figures don't change.

By way of example today I was doing a Tortollan Seekers world quest in Nazmir (the one where you need to kill Albatrosses and crabs) around 6.30pm oceanic realm time and near failed the quest. I'd aim and sometime in the next few seconds the shot would go off. On finishing the quest I use the flight whistle with no appreciable lag. I asked in general chat and others commented on having the same issues. So not just me.

I only group to do elites when I have to as it plays havoc with my latency. I need to completely log out of the game afterwards and come back on to get back to the low 60's. When this has occurred I have logged out of wow and onto Lord of the Rings Online with their servers on the east coast of the US. The latency to the server I play on is around 280 and plays fine. No packet loss and no spikes.

Zone: Nazmir (today but occurs across all bfa zones)
Character: Swindel
Latency issues on looting, Mailbox, AH, herbing.
Realm: Khaz'Goroth (Oceanic)
Group: see above comments, Solo WQ
Warmode: Off
The lag is in full swing Drakuloth or any other blue here.
Come check it out now - prime time and the prime example is currently happening.
6ms Home
6ms World

Gameplay like is 1989 on dialup
The Zone you are in: - Any BFA zones. We noticed lag in old Arathi Highlands on alts though, despite it still being zoned to Old Arathi and not the BFA one.

The character you are on - This one.

How long ago you had the issue - Since Launch day.

The Realm the affected character is on - Khaz'Goroth

If you are in a group or not - Grouped with my wife, she has the same issues.

Is war mode on or off - Off

We only get to play on peak times, and so far it's ruined the experience for us.

Zone: Boralus
Character: Virtutis
How Long: Occuring at present. Random spiking to 1500+ MS according to cast addon, in game latency 65
Realm: Caelestrasz
Group: No
War Mode: Off

I am noticing this periodically with no particular common occurrence as to when ti starts. In this particular case, I just logged in, have not grouped and have just started doing a WQ, so no intentional change in sharding or transfer to another realm.

And again tonight, in Drustvar now doing WQ, other details the same. Up to 2 seconds for interactions and Hot Streak procs are like cross fingers and pray as they are delayed in appearing and delayed in going away resulting in several seconds into a straight cast Pyro before cancelling. In game latency on 62.
