Ability/Loot Lag on Oceanic Servers Despite Normal Latency

Forgive that snark, I deleted it and rewrote. Please forget you saw it :p You deserve better.

The frustration is completely understandable, Aehl. End of the day, we want the same thing - stable servers/connections for you guys.

Here is 10 minutes of WinMTR to 103.4.115.248 (was streaming video at the time)

The data is appreciated Dablan!
Already added to the tracking, thanks for taking the time to run the MTR.
Data came from an Optus (Telco) 4g (connection via usb tether to my Note 8) with line of site to an uncongested tower if that helps.
Ive dropped into Trade and asked them to do it, cant promise anything.

Hey Aehl,

We don't currently have a time table on this as a large part of the process is aggregating and investigating data from players. The more traces, pathpings, and MTRs we get, the more effectively we can establish pattern and root cause.

If someone you know is experiencing this, please direct them to this thread to post their test results.

This problem has been two weeks, and the custmoer service constantly asking for data from players. I am just curious about this case in which almost all the players are experiencing the lag but Blizzard just didn't do anything about this, even though a apologize or a post to collect data to solve this issue. And since this problem has last almost two weeks, I would like to ask why Blizzard didn't invetigate the realm itself. I think that will be more efficient to have this problem solved.
Hey Blessmercy,

That would be assuming that the servers aren't also being investigated, or have been investigated and ruled out. We try to keep you guys in the loop as much as possible, but some issues take longer than others to determine root cause.

For the time being, please continue to post connection diagnostic results so that we can forward them on. They do help, and are greatly appreciated.

-Lantrasau
When this is happening to everyone on the Frostmourne (at least) why do you expect us to do your work for you. You guys never believe us when we tell you that it is Blizzard that has the problem...not us.
Surely you guys have the tools to do sophisticated network analysis yourselves without your customers needing to run all the tests for you.
It just feels like you guys are not taking us seriously.
Why not hop onto Frostmourne for yourselves and run the stupid tests yourself?
Doesnt 18 pages or complaints tell you already?

Howdy!

We are currently investigating this issue and need more information to narrow down the problem. When the issue is occurring please run a WinMTR to host IP: 103.4.115.248 for 10 minutes. Post the results back here within code blocks </>. Other information we would like to know:

- Does this latency only occur in Battle for Azeroth zones or anywhere in game?
- When the latency is occurring what does your Home/World latency report. You can see this by placing your mouse over the red question mark next to your bags.

This information will help us greatly! Just make sure to collect it when the issue is at it's worst and during the time frame stated.

Thank you!

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

This is in BFA zone Zuldazar

reported in game latency is 143/145
None of the MTRs provided so far show any network related issues. They show different ISPs, with different transit providers, connecting to Blizzard via different peering points etc. There are variations on everything, except the destination.

On top of that... the IP you've asked for the traceroute to isn't the IP of the realms we're playing on, so isn't 100% representantive. Yes it's in the same /24, but that doesn't mean it's taking the same path within the Blizzard network.

Looking at Wireshark while playing during the MTR below, I see latency of up to 500ms between the outbound packet from my PC and the response from the server. ICMP responses at the time are fine. I'm happy to send my PCAP to someone at Blizz if they'd like to see for themself.

So many different paths experiencing the same issue, while not showing unexpectedly high ICMP latency to the destination is clearly an application/server issue. I'm sure the Blizzard network crew are saying the same thing, but in my experience application/server guys get to the limit of their understanding and just blame the network. My commiseratoins Blizzard network crew.

FWIW here is my MTR, in game latency is 65/65ms, in game experience is well over 1 second latency.

It's never the network's fault (according to the network guys), you know that.

I'd post your captures for them anyway, and maybe a guide on how to read them

Tonight's new feature, whilst in Tortaka, in Voldun, is my guild chat doesnt work - I can type, but it doesnt show up, and I don't see any from anyone else.... type it in chat interface, nothing, try to send directly to the guild interface, red "Couldn't send message" warning

So I've been running Win MTR for the last hour

Worst hop to any of the 7 hosts = 90

Still get in game delays.

There's no chance there can be a routing or delay issue anywhere except WITHIN your server cluster, there';s only 6 hops from my router to your MTR trace destination.... I'm on Fibre with iinet, who bought internode, which is where I believe you house my servers....

I'm basically connected to the servers via Fibre.....

I will investigate mine when I am able to, I assume winmtr is accessible as a free download? Does this report overall connection statistics or does it monitor specific connections? (ie to WoW)

Personally I have been having issues for awhile with lag spikes and a lot of d/c, probably for a bit before BfA release, I can't recall if it was post 8.0.1 release or not.
However I have had my entire cable replaced between the exchange and my home (there was already known damage) and yet last night when I was online I still had the same issues of d/c and lag.

A notable zone for generic 1-2s lag has been Tiragarde for me, a lot of times after zoning in the game will be extremely laggy, as soon as I have ported to another zone however it was gone instantly.

Latency is mostly the same, even with the sudden drops my ping is coming up ~32/32. Although last night after a d/c it stayed around 670 after relogging and said that for ~5-10 mins even though the game was perfectly smooth as if it was ~32

Also experienced this last night, not sure if it was localised to a zone though. We had ~11 people on discord all reporting the same issue, most of us were in Stormsong Valley at the time but I believe there were others elsewhere.
Why can't Blizzard just be honest and admit what everyone knows - it's the servers, not us. I'd have a lot more respect for an honest company than one who obfuscates.
They have up to a point of saying ' we have no idea what is going on ".

All the data shows it is not our connections to the servers but rather their response to us.

They just do not know why or how to fix it, hence the silence.
And another one to add to the list

Here you go, this is from today.

I started this either at 1am when i went to bed, or 8am when i got up, either way I let it run until after 7pm tonight, so a full day's worth of statistics.

As per last time, worst entry was 118, average for everything was either 3 or 5... across an entire day, and for 4 hours after "school kids" finished and came home and logged on, never got worse than 118, yet I know im going to log in right now (as I have only just come home from work), and it will be terrible :(
