Abandoned plots you'd like to see picked back up

I’m talking stuff that hasn’t been mentioned in years. Stories that seemed to be going somewhere and then just stopped and we haven’t heard more about for several expansions.

For me it’s definitely the Ata’mal crystals. In BC they were being built up as this big macguffin of sorts, different factions were hunting for them and we even found a couple ourselves…and then nothing. One of them was planned to be in MoP’s warlock questline but was cut, and one appeared in WoD in Talador questing, but that’s all there’s been since BC. I don’t necessarily need something huge I just want to see the plot thread resolved. Maybe heritage armor for the draenei could do it.

I wish they’d revisit each of the Order Halls from legion and give them a little wrap-up quest that outlines what their status is going forward. What are the Illidari up to these days? Do the Uncrowned still exist? Is Velen still operating a magic space temple that pushes Ecumenism to its extremes?

A smaller thread that I’ve always been fond of was Morgan, the lady from the Burning Steppe who spoke about establishing her own Kingdom there. The idea of brand new states appearing on the world stage is a neat one - having to forge a whole national identity from scratch. (Though I acknowledge that they should probably get to Stromgarde and Gilneas before they worry too much about brand new Kingdoms.)

I wish the whole Red Dragonflight/Wrathion plot would come up more in Dragonflight. It’s been very lightly alluded to, but I want more. MOAR!

I want to see Rheastraza’s family - see how they view her sacrifice and what Wrathion did with the life she died to give him. Are they disappointed? Angry? Glad that at least he’s not corrupted and the flight is defending Azeroth again? Can we finally return Rhea’s Last Egg to her relatives so he doesn’t get cold sitting in my bank all these years?

I want to see in the Reds the mindset behind their raid on Ravenholdt manor, where the only POV shown to the player was Wrathion believing the Reds wanted to forcibly return him to their control. When did the Reds give up and decide to stay hands-off with Wrathion? Do some of them still feel they need to guide the Black Dragonflight? Mostraz, the red dragon leading the raid, was killed by Wrathion personally - does he have family, and how do they feel about events?

Generally, I feel that Wrathion isn’t so much fun as the brash rule-breaking, consequence-dodging sneak that he is unless there are actually some rule-makers trying to make him face the consequences of his actions - so I want to see these characters try to fill that role.

I’ve been very vocal about this over the years and with this persons flight appearing in Legion and BFA, it seems odd that this individual never appeared. That being Goriona. She flees during the Warmaster Blackhorn encounter but we never see her again. I feel like if Blizzard makes it so that she simply died to her injuries as a way to close up this plot thread, they should’ve just had her die as part of the encounter. Instead of her being in Lore Limbo with Archimonde.

It feels weird having her “survive” and do nothing with her since. With all the Old God hints we have been getting in Dragonflight so far, and the next major patch slapping it across your face I still feel a bit weirded out that we have yet to see any reference to the Twilight Dragonflight so far. The Twilights Hammer has shown up in a very comical fashion as they fight amongst themselves over who is best to lead the Worldbreaker cult. But no news on the Twilight Dragonflight… And with Shadowflame being a major plot point moving forward in patch 10.1, and with the Fyrakk taking a bath in the stuff…

Who knows, maybe we will see the Twilight Dragonflight in 10.2 or something. But one cannot talk about Neltharions legacy without bringing them up. His “perfect creations”.

As i’m tired of Zalazane, Vol’jin still has missing children.

Farahlon.

Tyrathan Khort helping get revenge against the people who killed Voljin. Maybe Khort is like, Stackpole’s Role Playing Character, so they do not want to use him more. Idk.

The Ethereals and the Consortium were sort of left out there. As are the Netherwing.

Speaking of the awesomeness of BC, I always found Murmur fascinating. There is so much to expand on there. A force of sound - almost leads right to Minstrel/Bard type lore.

The Axe of Cenarius is around , maybe it will come to play, now that Thura is in game.

I forgot about that and Yenniku is said to be the youngest. So Vol’jin has at least two kids… I wonder how they feel about Rokhan being Vol’jin’s successor as Darkspear chieftain.

I’ve always wanted Elementals of everything that can be grabbed.

Blizzard so fare has made Elementals of Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Ice(originally used a recolored Earth Elemental Model until Dragonflight), Light(recolored Fire), Shadow(recolored Fire), Fel(recolored Fire), Arcane(recolored Fire), Ale(recolored Water), Sand, Lightning(recolored Water), Honey(recolored Water), Slime(recolored Water), Maldraxxi Death, Mawsworn Death, Venthyr Death, Time(recolored Fire), Shadowflame and Sulfur.

We need Sound, Dream and Life Elementals(I also want Broker, Bastion and Ardenweald Death Elementals while I’m at it)!

The fel orc cure from TBC. Surely by now that $hit is finished.

Murmur is indeed interesting. I wonder what type of Elemental Sound elementals would be. I could see them being connected to air elementals, as air (gas) is the most common way sound goes from point A to point B. However sound can also travel through liquids (e.g. water) and solids (e.g. earth). So how would a sound elemental interact with water and earth elementals? Could those types of elementals enhance or weaken a sound elemental? As sound travels faster (in general) through solids then liquids and gasses. However sound does travel slower the more dense the medium is.

Maybe similar to Erazmin meeting Mekkatorque.

Hearthstone has made a large collection of various elementals that we never considered.

Magatha finally being able to kill Baine and give the Tauren some edge.

I still want all the atamal crystals to be found again.

I still want to see Chromantus - Warcraft’s Tiamat/Ghidorah - play a big part in the story, and the current dragon-themed expansion would be the ideal place for him.

Nar’jira the Naga battlemaiden! I read somewhere that she was originally supposed to be a raid boss in the scrapped Throne of the Tides raid, but we’ve seen hide nor hair (scale?) of her since. I was really hoping to see my favourite Naga badass battle babe in Eternal Palace or Nazjatar but alas…

I know Vashj’ir is a thorn in most people’s sides but I’ve staunchly maintained that it is one of my favourite zones. Sad that it remains unfinished.

I also would love a continuation or at least some more deep-dive into Gilnean Harvest Witches and Kul Tiran Thornspeakers. There’s so much unexplored lore there that really could add so much class flavour.

What ever happened to Nathanos.
Did Sylvanas find all the souls so she can come back?
Bwonsamdi, what is he up to ?

Seeing her again would be a treat.

Your funny. I only want Magatha’s story to continue so that we can have it’s end where we kill her.

And some others storylines I want to see continued are:

  • Chromatus, the Twilight and Netherwing Dragonflights. Dragonflight is the perfect place for this.
  • Thalen Songweaver, where is he?
  • Tyrus Blackhorn. The satyr promised to return but has been a no show.
  • Teron Gorefiend. He declared that the wheel of Death would keep spinning for him but he hasn’t been since his defeat in BC. I’m genuinely sad he wasn’t in Shadowlands.
  • Illidan filled seven magical vials with water from the Well of Eternity. Three were used to create the new well that Nordrassil was created over, one was used to create the Sunwell, and Kael’thas and Vashj each got one that was acquired by adventurers and given to Soridormi. Which raises questions for me. What does Soridormi and the Bronze Dragonflight have planned for them? Where is the last vial from the original Well of Eternity? Does Illidan still have it or has it been lost to time?

The bloodhoof line died with Cairne. Baine is just a spineless pushover who exists to be the mouthpiece of the alliance.

BC had a lot of abandoned macguffins. The Ata’mal crystals, the Vials of Eternity, there was something called “Glaive of the Aspects” mentioned in the pre-launch event and nowhere else. Maybe more. I think I remember something about some totem in Nagrand, vaguely.

Also the Horde finally leaving Durotar and going back to Outland and repairing their lost world would be nice.
