Aang was a shaman. Not a monk

Aang from avatar the last airbender was a shaman. All benders are shamans. Not monks. They may look like monks, and act like monks, but they wield the elements. So they are shamans.

This means that best monk in existence is goku, not aang. Scorrrrrrrreeeee 1 for DBZ.

But superman is not a monk. If anything, he is a warrior or even a paladin?

He has lazor eyes. 100% demon hunter.

Also if it was blizz writing, Aang would follow anduin’s ability to wield plate/swords dispite being a priest.

I mean, if human man lex luthor can get ahold of a green rock without instant transmission as well as batman, I think Goku could manage it as well with relative ease.

And even if superman won, he’s still one of the most bland, flat and quite frankly, boring characters ever written. So like, I guess he can win, but I think most people would get more excited watching some shuffleboard finals at a retirement home instead.

Technically, WoW Monks wield the same ‘spirit’ power that Shamans draw their energy from, so they’re not too too far off.

We both know goku won’t use kryptonite, he would want to fight him at 100%. If we are talking bland though, they both are predictable and boring. Goku’s personality needs major improvement to be interesting.

Uhh, but my DnD Monk that uses the elements says otherwise. Benders are monks with elemental powers - Shamans (Shamen?) have no exclusive rights to the magic source, if we’re being real

The real master monk is Yamcha! So strong they had to constantly nerf him in the series to keep things fair.

Nerf wolf fang fist! Too op!

well wow monks wield the elements so i’m not sure what the problem is

Star Trek is better than Star Wars!

Change my mind.

Or don’t, I don’t really care. Babylon 5 was better than either anyway.

Eh, can’t really compare. In the story universe Aang is from, monks can and do wield the elemental powers associated with their nations. The ability to wield elemental powers isn’t limited to, or even part of the definition of being shamans, monks, military, w/e, but they do incorporate that ability into what their chosen profession is.

stargate and farscape were better then all of that, just sayin.

on topic tho i think aang was more a shaman because of his role as the bridge to the spirit world. the rest of the benders were monks because of the martial arts training

As a Shaman main, and a lover of all things Avatar: I still think benders are more monk-like.

They move the elements with the motion of their bodies and fighting styles. It just feels monk-like.

Plus WoW Monks aren’t always too far off in terms of the source of their power. Chen even fights us for our Ele Sham artifact in Legion.

Also: We should all really take more advice from Uncle Iroh. Have a cup of tea, and think about our actions.

I am not sure I understand the comparison, my handsome hulkling.

WoW is one of the few intellectual properties where such distinctions between Druid, Monk, and Shaman are so narrow and precise. It more traditional fantasy settings, both Druid and Monks have access to elemental forces and use them as well.
