A WPvP event idea that forces player combat

Hello, I’d like to share an idea I had while thinking of ways I would improve the Ashenvale PvP event. After the changes they’ve made I’ve had a much better time, but still PvP is fairly absent as it is still mostly a massive zerg to each boss.

What I propose is an arena style king of the hill/death match. I’m just going to use the Arathi Highlands and the mages of Dalaran as a story background and only for example purposes. This could be any zone or any reason.

The conflict in Ashenvale has intrigued the mages of Dalaran, and they’d like a hand to play as well. While adventuring through the Arathi Highlands the mages of Dalaran will randomly select you and X amount of other members of your faction to be placed in a dome of arcane magic. This dome cannot be escaped and the only way through is victory/defeat.

Each dome could be 15v15 or 30v30, not sure. Instead of whatever team wipes first, it could instead be whoever racks up the most kills or achieves X amount of kills first and when you die you respawn inside the dome. The winning team is then transported to a new dome against another winning team and so on and so forth. I’m thinking a best of 7 situation, best dome team wins more rep for the appropriate faction, but the loser should still receive a good amount of rep too or the ability to gain rep similar to killing the grunts in Ashenvale.

The loser domes are to be transported outside of a winning dome and fight for buffs and advantages for the people inside the dome. So while the deathmatch rages on inside the dome, the people outside the dome work to swing the victory in their faction’s favor by killing enemies and collecting resources to send to the people in the dome. For example; players outside the dome kill enough of X, players in dome gain Y benefit. This could be mobs that spawn outside the zone as well as players. Kill X of each type of elemental, faction members in the dome gain blood lust. Kill X amount of Warlocks, players inside the dome cast drain life on their target. Kill X amount of beasts, all enemy beasts in the dome are debuffed.

This would help keep players who didn’t win the dome fight actively involved and incentivize them to stick around to help sway the outcome as well as a fun and interactive way of getting honorable kills.

Potential problems:

Grouping up with like 40 hunters, but I would propose that even if you are grouped, the teleportation does not take that into account and you may or may not be selected to be in the same dome as your group members.

If you are questing or not interested in the event there should be a way to opt out. For example if the event is about to begin a pop up should appear on screen and ask if you’d like to be teleported from your position and into a dome.

There would be obvious balance flaws if one team in a dome got more healers than the other, but I’d love to hear thoughts and any expansion on this idea. I hope to hear some.

TLDR:

More death match/king of the hill style events!

I like the idea of what is effectively a larger scale arena, though I’m not sure about the Bo7 version you’ve described. Not that I think it wouldn’t be fun or interesting, just that I think the average player would probably find it hard to follow and understand.

I do think it’s important that the next WPvP event does not have a PvE win condition, as any PvE win condition will facilitate strategies that ignore PvP in favor of just rushing down PvE objectives, such as AV or Ashenvale.

What about a points-based system that has PvE elements awarding 1/2 the required points to win?

I like this idea and definitely think zerg the boss is not really a pvp event. These open world PVP objectives should be pvp based. I would say even something as simple a “king of the hill” style mode, with certain adjustments, would be more pvp based than the current system we have.

I’m sorry but i stopped reading here. It doesn’t matter if your idea is great or terrible it’s just too late making a big change to the ashenvale event for what ever time is left in this phase probably isn’t worth the change

Please read the rest of the post as it has nothing to do with changes to Ashenvale

any change at this point in the game will still be too late
