I don’t get how that doesn’t count as “additional for-pay features.” It’s wild to me tbh
Everyone inevery single thread like this claims this. Every single time. I mean the same line it’s almost always word for word. If I wasn’t incredibly lazy I would tag all of them in this post I guarantee you I could find at least 6.
You know what’s funny? all of us replying know it’s untrue. People always know why they were banned
If people are shilling for rip-off (and illegal) WoW addons on stream it sounds like even RAID, SHAD’OH LEGUNZ doesn’t want to associate with them.
Besides, who in their right mind would pay for a guide to help them level when they could just use a free add-on… Or if they wanted to waste money, to just buy a level boost instead?
Two issues here.
- Assumption (wrongly, Blizzard has the capability to ban an addon, this addon is not banned).
- You state “interpreted as cheating” which is an issue. That’s YOUR interpretation. My guess is if you go over the ToU line by line and as well as do a bit of digging, you will find that there is something else you are doing that is in violation of their ToU, and that’s why you’re actually getting banned.
Because you can use the addon itself without the data that’s being sold with it.
It’s like how Amazon provides the Kindle app for free, but then sells you the books to read in it.
You can use the Kindle app with your own books that you’ve written yourself, so there really is no premium feature that’s being charged for here.
But the original intent was probably to allow streamers to include their UIs as a sub perk.
Noone is being banned for addons. At least, not actual addons (that go in the addons folder). It is impossible to break the rules in Blizzard’s Lua sandbox (well other than chat rules like spamming or profanity).
Well yes, they won’t tell you how you got detected for cheating.
There is nothing that cheat/bot developers would love more than to know exactly how blizzard is detecting them.
I suppose that’s more apt way of explaining it.
I was going to say that it isn’t like if ElvUI made their free add-on and people could make it how they wanted to, but there was a demand for Streamer Bathwater UI layout that someone was using and instead of recreating it themselves, the person (and not the add-on creator) monetizes their personal settings.
Not necessarily lying. Blizz would likely not say “you were banned because you used X addon to complete tables and/or puzzles”. They would say something like “your account was banned for automation - see ToS page X paragraph Y…”. If you had three accounts like the OP apparently does, and you did legal multiboxing, you could have no idea what specifically you were banned for - was it a table add-on, or did Blizz think you were automating multi-box?
One thing is certain - I still have that addon installed, but haven’t been loading it for years. I will now go and remove it - thanks OP for the heads up.
I’ve actually had to help a player in newcomer chat because one of these guides was giving them incorrect information.
They are paying for info worse than a WoWhead Google.
[blink…sips coffee] You know you just told on yourself, right?
Yeah. Most of them are just a scam to prey on the inexperienced and uninformed. While there are some services I want to believe are legit, like coaching/PvP guides and the like, I can’t bring myself to pay for anything that can be found freely.
I find whenever someone says they were innocently banned for doing nothing …there is something missing. Maybe that really did happen to you though, good luck out there. I recommend single player games much more relaxing and a lot less stress
I’ve used tldr since SL with no issues. Tell us about the illicit addons/services you’re using, op.
TLDR automates the Covenant Mission Table right?
That right there would be why accounts are banned for it. Automating things outright is a big no-no.
Then why did blizzard specifically allow addons to interact and place troops for the SL mission table?
It’s running entirely within the sandbox provided by blizzard for addons, so that’s not it.
Or…the same thing could be happening to a bunch of people? 3.5 million downloads for this addon (which is totally free of charge, btw. Just a thought.
There have been addons doing this since WoD introduced the mission table.
Maybe!
Honestly it is just the most logical thing I can think of.
If TLDR is the issue, anyway.
Everything I use is free of charge and public domain from Curse. I’m too cheap to do anything else. Also too dumb. Again, IDC if you believe me or not. Just wanted to let people know about the potential risk.
