So, here’s my idea. First, we get rid of Legacy of the Void (a default talent) and Surrender to Madness (it’s so bad it isn’t even a meme, stop it Blizz, it isn’t funny). We replace them with two new talents on par with Dark Ascension, because with my idea you’d want Dark Ascension.
The way the new voidform would work is we would remove void eruption and void bolt from the game. Upon reaching 100 Insanity (Blizz clearly likes the builder/spender model and ramping), you AUTOMATICALLY enter Voidform.
The new Voidform would increase all damage from your shadow damaging spells by an additional 10% and give the current stacking haste buff, incentivizing us to get into and maintain Voidform for as long as possible.
And here’s the part that would make us stand out AND be viable in PvP again - while in Voidform all your spells can be cast while moving. Blizz could even tune our numbers a little lower to compensate for our new mobility.
What do people think? Is this too OP or is this the sweet spot?
Shadow gains a surprisingly small amount of mobility over live with this change. If you’re counting Void Bolt rank 2 in this change as well, then Void Bolt Rank 2 is still causing a tonne of issues that aren’t related to mobility as well… It doesn’t fix anything to let you cast while moving in voidform.
Umm. What? You just literally contradicted yourself. Void Bolt Rank 2 is BAD because it literally forces us to stand still 100% of the time to maximize dps. This is a known grievance on the Alpha.
My suggestion would allow us to cast while moving - which is the only good part of Surrender to Madness offset by the fact that it kills you 99% of the time.
I literally solve the mobility issue with this change to Voidform, so how did you reach your conclusion???
The solution to voidform is to turn it into a talent that completely removed your ability to use shadow form. That way shadow forms damage bonus can be buffed to compensate for the nerfs that voidform scaling always requires. Of course, the spec is very shallow without voidform mechanics so we would probably need some additional buttons to press.
If we’re going to do that we might as well just rework the entire spec. Shadowform is already gutted. It used to have damage reduction built into it (BECAUSE WE’RE A LIVING SHADOW) but rogues cried about it in PvP and because they get whatever they want Blizz nerfed it.
Movement doesn’t matter when your snared.
In PvP you will be snared and so with reduced damage will just be a straight up nerf.
Our class is not designed to kite like a mage or chain CC like a warlock.
We have always been the “Tanky” class with low mobility. That being said, we should go back to that aspect and get spells/abilities that help us do damage while taking damage in the form of damage reduction, interrupt protection, instant cast procs etc.
Casting on the move is a clunky play style that can be easily abused with mind flay and healing while moving just to name a couple.
Sure those are not that helpful in a team setting when your getting trained. But out in world setting it would be stupid to have a caster run circles around you while range slowing you and healing without stopping.
Melee will throw a fit and blizz will nerf us. So its a waste of time to take the class into the casting while moving area.
Void bolt rank 2 creates multiple problems, casting while moving solves one of those problems, which was not a problem before Void Bolt rank 2 was introduced. Hence if Void Bolt rank 2 was removed, casting while moving wouldn’t solve anything.
