A Way To Bring Back Totems For Elemental

What if they were our maelstrom spenders instead of a shock spender. Obviously these totems could be easily Overpowered, but if the damage is tuned well it would be cool to have totems out flinging lightning and lava blasts everywhere. And you can drop them on the move.

Fire Totem: places a totem for 5 Seconds. This totem launches fireballs at all targets with your flame shock active every .25 seconds.

Lightning Totem: Your elemental Overload Procs Cause the totem to send a lightning bolt to the target affected by the overload for 6 Seconds.

I really like both of those ideas.

The fire totem fixes up the old issues with Searing Totem since it only attacks enemies you’ve Flame Shocked and stops that dumb totem from aggroing everything within a mile. Plus it’s really interesting AoE and finally gives us back our fire totem with an actual use.

The lightning totem sounds really damn fun since it’s basically a second overload, and I can only imagine how crazy it’ll look when Chain Lightning overloads and we get lightning arcing from the totem to 5 different targets alongside the overloads. It’s also nice that it actually gives overload a much more tangible effect.

I’m aware you’re not the biggest fan of having all four elements shoehorned in for no reason… but we have fire and air there so how about a water and earth idea?

Nah, I wouldn’t know what the hell a water and earth spender would be anyways. I guess a generic healing totem and a defensive totem?

Water totem could be a cc have it throw frost shocks or a frost attack. And earth totem could launch earth spikes at targets with flame shock. Have that be need that for the totem attacks they have to have flame shock on them.

It would be hard to make Utiltiy totems be spender totems. You want to be able to PoP a utility when you need it. And trying to put 4 spenders on a spec, would just add Bloat.

The other option would be to make 4 different dps totems, and have the spender cycle through them. Like wildfire bombs for hunter.
I am not so keen on this idea.

It’s cool but with how easily totems are killed in PvP and how much movement is used in PvE I could see this not working out that well.

Just have the totems be non targetable. Easy fix there.
As for movement in PvE? The totems dont need to have a max range. Or even a 40 Yard range on their spells would work.

Like the RonCo Rotisserie. You Set it and Forget it. Ele shamans have the issue where they they are turrets. Moving kills their dps. If they say anticipate a move, Then Flame shock as much as they can, then drop the fire totem and move. They have some passive DPS while they change position.
