A Warcraft Virtual Reality Experience

So Blizzard Watch posted an article today regarding WoW tie-in games, and I feel like I have a pretty good idea for one.

One of the great things that has stayed constant since launch is the exploration aspect of the game. I love it. So I think that a virtual reality game, modeled after Myst, would be fantastic.

Since you would log in through the launcher, everything could be connected, and you would be able to use an existing character. The game would scale to that characters level (yep, you gotta do some fighting of nasty old beasties), so you could even play as your level 1 bank toon. You would have access to all of the zones, which could update with each expansion, to keep the game evolving over time - new quest lines would be added as well.

Classes would be simplified, with a couple of attacks and a defense/cc ability. Questing could be single threads, but tie into one big story, and could be repeated at different difficulty levels and for each class. You could wander through the shoppes of Stormwind or die to the Devilsaurs of Ungoro Crater. You’d gather stuff as you went along, and have to keep an eye on the shared auction house for items you may need at some point that would be sold at set prices, so there isn’t price gouging, etc.

Each quest would provide some reward, and after doing ‘x’ number, unlock an actual in game item (both general use and class based). A pet, a mount, a legendary (!) heirloom or transmog piece, etc. Something that would be relevant and usable in the existing game.

It could have a pvp element, where in-game players can go into an instanced area (like the SW/IF tram), and watch two players from the VR game go at it.

There wouldn’t be any flying except by griffin, but you would have a racial mount once you’ve progressed, or completed ‘x’ number of quests in your starting city. Of course, you’ll use boats to get to the different places.

I don’t know about anyone else but myself and a few friends, but I’d go out and by a VR system, just to play a game like that, where you could wander SW or the open spaces of Arathi or the Barrens, seeking that one little clue that would let you move on to the next step.

So what do you all think?

Wait, this isn’t a China thread…

What’s going on here?

I’m suspicious too.

As for the OP, don’t we already do all of that in game?

So VR is incredibly fun, but it is still in its super early stages where it really isn’t worth going in on yet. At the moment, I wouldn’t suggest anyone buy a system in its current stage as you are essentially piloting alpha hardware/software. Give it another 5 years, maybe more.

More to your point though, I would die for WoW VR compatibility in the future.

I think it would be pretty cool, though I would even be happy if it was implemented how WoW is now.

I’ve often wondered how it would feel like to be my character Ingame for a sec.

It’d probably take them that long to build it anyways, or actually green light it.

I’ve already said it a long time ago before VR was really popular. If they ever did VR, let me live there. I’d do mundane things like farming and such, and just moseying around.

I’d also like to be able to just gain reputations finding things for people, building relationships with factions through my deeds. Gah, maybe one day

Maybe, but VR currently requires a lot of space in a room to move around, even if it is limited. It’s getting way better. It’s amazing at what progress it’s made in the past 2 years. When we first purchased…sorry I can’t remember the name of it, the one that was bought by Facebook, it gave us raging headaches. Our newer system doesn’t unless we disorient ourselves in some way.

They’ve made great progress and it’ll be interesting to see how much further it’ll be in a few years.
