A Traitorous Decision: Unlocking Cross Faction

Some people just want cross faction unlocked so they can play their factional character in the other faction’s city and grace. Tauren coming to Stormwind, or Night Elves leaving to join the Horde.

“This would NEVER happen!”. Well, we already know that PCs are different from NPCs, and character archs can improve the feel of the gameplay. How many Orcs would have rather followed Varian instead of Garrosh? How many Alliance saw Sylvanas’ vision clearly? People who we thought were on our side change sides everyday… and here’s how our characters can do it.

A Traitor Among Us...

The Meeting

You see a cryptic message on the Call Board in your city asking if you are “happy” with the choices of your leaders. Upon closer inspection, the back of the flier has a map with some numbers scrawled next to it.

For Alliance:

The coordinates show a secret location not far from the Horde city of Orgrimmar, and the sigil imprinted in wax has a T in it. This would elude to Spymaster Thalodien of the Horde.

For Horde:

The coordinates show a secret location not far from the Alliance city of Stormwind, and the sigil imprinted in wax has an S in it. This would elude to Spymaster Mthias Shaw of the Alliance.

You depart for your secret location at level cap, and meet with the appropriate Spymaster.

The Pitch

When you arrive, the Spymaster has the burnt orange outline, showing you are not friendly, but not attackable either. Turning in the quest prompts a new quest: “Are you sure about this?”

"Are You Sure About This?"

The enemy before you hands you a contract, swearing your undying allegiance to your new factor. If accepted, you will sign it in blood and get the next quest. If you decline, you can return to your home faction, and simply tell no one. However, actions have consequences, so accepting this quest will turn your character “neutral” in the sense you may now do damage and if caught, attacked in your own city.

This decision is permanent and cannot be undone. Unlike covenants, you cannot simply switch, and this character is forever locked to this faction as part of the achievement. You can faction change every other character, except this specific one that unlocks the achievement.

Once you have accepted being a Traitor, all future quests in this campaign are done remotely via communication device in your ear (like we have had on multiple questlines) and will auto-complete. Only the final quest will be a physical turn in, and will be done in either the Stormwind Keep or the Warchief’s Council Chamber. Much like how Death Knights, Pandaren, Demon Hunters, and Dracthyr were all welcomed.

Throughout this campaign, you will face very brutal decisions to prove your loyalty to the other side, and you must complete this campaign to unlock all faction rep again. Your rep will be converted at the end, just like a faction change service, but you will ONLY gain rep for the primary faction houses during this event, Stormwind or Orgrimmar. So it is VITAL if you want to get quests and faction protection moving forward to finish these quests.

The Quests

Both Alliance and Horde will have quests that closely mirror one another as to avoid bias that has been shown in the past. They will consist of:
  • Framing an NPC for murder
  • Destroying a central function (disrupting the AH or Flight master, instanced as not to affect other players)
  • Poisoning the water supply
  • Distracting guards while rogues sneak in behind you
  • Robbing the city coffers to give to your new faction
    and lastly…
  • Assassinating a key player (NPC) within the ranks of your soon to be former faction
This is up to Blizz. They can create some “Council Member” who is in town for a Summit Meeting, and end up dead in the Tavern they are staying in.

When the final quest is complete, you will use the emergency Scroll of Town Portal: (SW or Org) and make your way to either the Stormwind Keep or the Warchief’s Council Chamber where your spymaster will be waiting to vouch for you, and guarantee your invitation to your new faction. You will then be faction changed, and locked on this character and all of your earned Rep will convert.

You will also receive the Achievement “Azeroth’s Known Traitor” and the title:

“(Name), the Alliance Traitor” or “(Name), Traitor to the Horde”

You may now create any new character on either faction.
