Why would it go Free to Play though? That’s what games do when they are on death’s door. WoW is doing fine as one of the biggest if not the biggest game within its genre.

Why would WoW go F2P when people are more than willing to pay with money or with gold?
These types of suggestions always are a broad idea used to cope with some part of the game the OP has had a bad time in, in this case apparently bots and auctions.

Yeah, there are 3 ways to play…and one is free
F2P “Trial” is very limited
Pay to play (no box price) allows you to play everything except the current retail x-pack.
Pay to play (With box price) allows you to play everything

I know but it was like a brainworm had to get it out. also it makes for a good thought experiment. i was thinking it going along the lines of SWTOR or OSRS where it allows for more players but keeps the game authentic for those who want to support.

There are F2P versions of WoW already. Get out there and enjoy them, OP!
We’ll be here in the WoW that gets content updates and doesn’t push us to purchase MTX amounting to more than a sub fee just to have basic functionality.

neither honestly it really just popped in my brain and its fun for me to think on and occasionally share
free to play would be limited to last expansion stuff, they would not get current expansion stuff period.
There are free private servers aren’t there?

Wow is F2P at low levels. Other than that is a terrible, terrible idea. With F2P, you get what you pay for – endless haranguing to pay real money for IG advantages and all the terrible gameplay that goes along with that.
It’s only $15 frickin dollars a month. Get a job!
I assume so, but honestly I have no clue. I’ve never really looked into it and the ones I have seen have changed the game enough to not really be “WoW.”

ACK! I was there when SWtOR first went to their free to play model.

Since then, they revamped it and made it more tolerable and not so … awfully limiting.
Yeah but that’s no different than the OP’s suggestion which amounts to “Make the game terrible but free.”

the QoL today wasnt originally in the game and we got on just fine. hell other games that have been around nearly as long as WoW do this maybe some longer.
