With all the discussion about how unbalanced factions are right now and Horde domination, is it possible that Horde players are more PvP driven due to lack of questing content for their faction?
It’s evident that questing and the zones in Kalimdor launched back in vanilla unfinished and that still holds true in Classic. I recall having plenty of quests playing Alliance in the Eastern Kingdoms but it was a real struggle leveling a NE due to lack of content. Ultimately, I would end up going to the EK to fill in the gaps.
I thought I would bring this up for discussion since there is some dispute about WPvP in the current game being one sided (Also, the forum is flooded with QQ’ing that is really getting old fast). Not calling for changes, just looking for some discussion in the matter.
No, it’s the transition of the current player base from Retail driving the Horde>Alliance status quo.
You’re not going to be level 30, have a lack of quests, and all of sudden take to Hillsbrad to get wasted by a level 60, regardless of faction.
The driving force is some futile reasoning (racials/lame race) to flood Horde.
However, there’s always a two way street. While Horde may be the numerical daunting opposition, the quality in its player base is about the same as Alliance.
Meaning, there are just as good PvPers on the Alliance as there are on the Horde, despite the disadvantages proclaimed.

More pvp players are driven to horde because of the racial advantages, the psychological advantage of larger, meaner-looking characters, and the snowball effect of pvpers following other pvpers.
I also speculate the player base of the horde is younger because younger players are attracted to playing cartoonish non-human monster characters while older players are attracted to the RP LOTR feel of being the classical “heroes” in alliance. With this in mind younger people like to pvp than older people so that’s another reason.

Not really, even in vanilla horde was the better PVP faction and more PVP oriented. The only difference this time around is scale. PVE servers are still majority alliance, and PVP horde.

Aside from the numerous posts of Horde touting how bad Alliance is, the reason most Alliance players went TO PvE is because of the years of Horde Good, Alliance Bad being brainwashed into the community.
This is a byproduct of that nor is the result a surprise.

Eh… alliance have as little questing content at 60.
I think you got a point there.
In 2005 I was 24 and rolled unead mage (to look like a lich) and went POM+Pyro to kill all alliance in sight. I did BGed, got high in pvp ranking and never raided.
Now when i came back to vanilla, i was 33 and rolled human fury warrior to be as much efficient as possible for raiding all the content possible. I did little pvp because it didnt attracked me at all unlike when i was younger. It was raiding and lore of WoW that were interesting me the most. And classic went out while im 38, and it is still the same. I’m mage and getting ganked all the time (opposite fact that when i was 24 and was ganking others lol). Because for me, it’s boring as hell and useless now.
I blame streamers and the lack of skeletons on the field of battle.
This never even crossed my mind when I was younger.
Going into this game I knew from the start I wanted to be Alliance b/c of all the lore that came with it. Not to say there isn’t any lore on the Horde side, but speaking strictly the story narrative of Warcraft I & II (and of course WCIII), the Alliance prevailed. I wanted to see those places and have my characters adventures through those areas they referenced in game and later in novels. Hell, does anyone even remember Hillsbrad and Strathholme (Granted Strathholme was still burning from WCIII but I was still brought back to WCII) or where Lothar was slain as campaign missions in Warcraft II? I nearly cried when I saw these places for the first time.
Perhaps you are correct in your speculation of Horder players being younger than Alliance players. It definitely puts some things into perspective.
More actual players play horde.
People that play alliance are people that think questing is the game lul
Nah, Shaman are way more fun than Pallies.
Pallies are horrid things that should be eliminated. I do my part as I can.
You didnt read the OP then
Anyone that’s playing on a PvP server and is listening to someone that’s on a level 18 character AND taking them serious has got to be daft.
I just rolled an Ally on a PvP server and got to 19 yesterday…
First off, you can spend the first 30 levels not even worrying about flagging for PVP because you have Deadmines, Blackfathom Deeps and Stockades ALL accessible in Alliance territories.
Heck, slap Gnomeregan on there and you could push it to 35.
Second, if you decided to avoid the dungeon crawl and quest, the earliest you would go to a contested zone in EK is Wetlands/Redridge and Kalimdor Ashenvale…
I have more meritable information regarding a PvP server than OP does.
A lot of generalization in that statement. I started as horde (granted it was in TBC and not vanilla) and I enjoyed both PVP and questing. I also had way more time to play then and few responsibilities. As I got older,y play time became less and I had to make a choice on how I would spend my time. Sadly, it ended up being that I transferred to a PVE server because at that point raiding was more enjoyable. I still participated in PvP, as time allowed. Then I had another choice to make, play alone or move to alliance and play with friends. I still enjoy PVP (mildly annoyed by not being able to accomplish much right now but there are ways around it (going to try some of the out of the way places at odd hours to get a level or two so scholo is worth it).
I think it is better to say each person has mitigating factors as to why they play what they play and where.
Well yeah see, you’re an actual person. You should commandeer this thread.
Nothing to do with needing to commandeer, but correcting fallacies is important.
I’ll post my experience leveling on a relatively even PvP server and how it goes.
Yes, bc the level of the character a person posts on is mad important.
Nope. It’s your thread now. Please educate us all on the current state of the game. I eagerly await your book release.
When you’re giving a theory on WPvP… yea it’s pretty important.
Maybe you got a 60, but why people don’t post on them is beyond me. The point is, you could go to almost level 35 without even needing to run into the Horde. (not sure from the Hordes consensus)
There’s plenty of posts that get it right. All I am saying is if all you got is experience as a lv 18 character on a PVP server, there’s no way you can have any semblance of what it looks like at 50 and up.
