So, I’m super weird. Like, almost pathetically weird. And as someone who is weird, I will admit that one of the biggest turnoffs to the idea of rolling multiple characters of the same race and gender is that they will always sound exactly the same. Sure, one may use a pair of knives and the other may use a gun, but they’ll still both scream SHARON!!! like bloody murder after falling to their knees while dying in an overly dramatic fashion.
For this reason, I was super grateful that the allied races didn’t just copy over the voice work that was done for their parent races, and instead have their lines completely redone. It was a nice touch, and something that improved the overall experience I’ve been having with allied races.
We all know that WoW’s character customization system is more than a little dated. We’ll never be able to get body sliders or change other parts of the body beyond the head, and the customization options we do get tend to be limited to hair style/color, eye color, and tattoo options that are covered up by gear anyway.
But what if you were able to choose how your character sounded? What if your mage was actually able to sound like a crotchety old archmage inspired by WC3? What if your orc could sound like a dopey peon? What if your human could sound like a Gilnean? What if your night elf could sound like the amazonian she was back in the RTS series?
What if your undead could sound like Skeletor???
In my opinion, a selectable voice set would be a great way to personalize your character in a game where personalization is admittedly limited due to technical limitations.
OMG, if I could pick any other voice for my female blood elf prot paladin I would. Fighting is such a godawful mix of the terrible old voice and some terrible new voice.
I really want to play my male human monk and I also really want to appearance change my paladin to male human but the “HYUH” combat noise is sooo annoying. I would love to have some different voices for them.
Why do you say that, if you don’t mind my asking? Expressions of customization have always been important to the player base, which is why transmog is popular. Sure, the engine provides more than a few limitations, but I would argue that it’s on the best interest for the health of the game to do everything possible within the limiting parameters.
I remembered doing a quest in Deepholm back in Cata, there was a female troll shaman npc who has a voice of an angel. If only we can have a voice like that instead of the current one that sounds like a swamp witch.
i know sethrakk and ankoan aren’t too likely, but maybe if they did happen they could give them different voices to make up for their lack of female/male customizations
I like this idea. One of the big missteps with BfA in my opinion is the emphasis on earning new allied race appearances. It’s great if you enjoy alts, but I liked the Legion model much better, where the time you spent with a character resulted in more cool appearances for that character.
Ah, that’s a shame. On the upside I’m pretty sure they do keep track of constructive general discussion forums. Sakaar mentioned it was part of his job to forward the good ones to the right people, and humorously Ion allegedly spends a lot of his time here, so maybe we didn’t need a suggestion forum.
On an unrelated topic, are you a Worgen or a Kul Tiran? Your race has swum in the swamp of ambiguity for far too long!
