You think those points are weird, try their posture when they’re standing still. They look like someone broke their back sideways. It’s like Morticia from the original Addams Family, only instead of looking like she’s bent backward, she’s crooked to the side. Really, really disorienting when trying to line her up for certain maneuvers (walking thin ledge, etc).
Honestly, the plot has kind of gotten lost at this point. I’ve been here for a while. It kind of shows me that the forums are a terrible medium for debate because of how one or two snippets of a conversation can be blown up into an entire new branch of conversation and the context for my statements is buried up so far now that nobody entering the talk can be expected to read over them (I mean, 3,296 posts, these really blow up).
My original point was just that the jewelry (specifically the phoenix) wouldn’t really fit elsewhere, and I would like it if Blizzard added more customization that is visually unique to blood elves. By comparison the subject of hair colors isn’t personally important to me.
When I put golden jewelry inlaid with green gems on my blood elf, give her phoenix wing earrings and a big necklace, it screams “blood elf” to me, and that was really Blizzard’s goal. Where they failed is in underdelivering when there are so many amazing ideas that would bring this reaction out so much more. Tattoos are a popular example, but just one of many.
True, though jewelry is a poor substitute for impactful options.
I agree that blizzard should have provided far more important customization options for blood elves especially in context of void elves getting half their outward appearance options.
I agree with this.
While the current jewelry does obviously belong on at least a thalassian and is appropriate to blood elves, it’s immensely underwhelming and a poor choice in making blood elf players feel distinct.
I’d agree with you 100% there. I was using jewelry as an example just because it already exists in the game, and people took issue with me earlier bringing up potential options like tattoos, runes, etc.
But if it was actually a choice between jewelry and scars, tattoos, etc, it’s not even a choice.
Yeah absolutely, and I’ve also reiterated this point to people several times. I think it symbolizes the sort of design choice I like to see: that is, a distinguishing customization feature that no other race should reasonably have. So in my mind it was a serviceable example, but I think people construed it as me saying that it was enough for blood elves, or that they were just fine as they are.
The hair color thing at this point just feels like it’s missing the forest for the trees. But if I use tattoos as an example, people tell me to stop focusing on customizations that aren’t in the game. If I use jewelry as an example, people bring up tattoos and such.
Nazmir invasions the last time we saw
You should, you are absolutely part of them.
I mean your first post:
But yes you DON´T care over making Velves clones -like literal clones, you said and I quote: “every natural hair color that Blood elves have” ffs. And then you put your foot further inside your mouth with the “that’s on Blizzard for not giving Blood Elves more distinguishing features like more jewelry options, tattoos, etc” part in which the implication that welll, too bad Blizz never got to put work on the race they were supposedly working on but this doesn´t mean it´s a good enough reason to avoid cloning all the available hair colors of Belves on Velves.
And then you post this:
Implying that indeed, the current jewerly customization >>>>>> visual hair colors in regards to racial differentiation. Ignoring all but one of the jewerly models are NOT a reference to their cultural background (unless ofc the only scale you use is the outdated NPC guards). Also, this is the most “creative” way I´ve ever seen to say that Belves need more meaningful customizations by far.
Suure?
This is a very reductive way to look at them. Worse when we take into account Lor´s very first iteration in this game portrayed him as a vagrant Farstrider decked in leather greens -though I liked it… it perfectly send the message this people were in the middle of a 5 years old crisis and counting-.
In that post you seemed totes fine with Belves getting totally plated in gold cause old NPCs get plated in gold… but maybe the gold thing has a more lore basis in regards to allusion to the Sunstrider house than merely being an expresion of them liking the color?
Which specific lore custom, all the NOT phoenixed esque ones? Those that we can put on a dwarf or a human or a Goblin or a Draenei and that look just as fine on them?
Funny how you just changed the tone of your argument AFTER Sommand kindly pointed to you how the jewerly was sending a bad message in regards to the Belf race. Before you insisted ALL the examples of the jewerly were VERY representative and unique for Belves.
A proper description of the culture of the race (being that political stance, religious belief, etc.).
That´s NOT the same the jewerly is an accurate representation of their culture as per their lore. That´s just saying it aesthetically looks similar to what some NPCs use.
Accurate is yes, the phoenix earrings of the moon themed neckacles for Nelves.
Well, blame your first post. Cause this is the message it send.
The only onnavative asset they use is the phoenix icon. A tent made of cloth is not “gaudy” it´s literaly least effort.
Okay, I tried dumbing down my arguments as much as possible, but it didn’t work. I just can’t have a conversation with you, I’m sorry.
Good lord there’s over 100 replies since I was here earlier, I’m not reading all that.
TLDR There was some talk about elves.
If these forums had sigs, this would make for a good one.
Gods I want sigs now… Kinda forgot that was a thing on forums…
…
I need to get out more.
The big red gaudy armor is a recent implementation -pointing out how much the devs and the art team couldn´t care less-. The only NPC that has kept his “gaudy red robes” is Rommath, and this was justified in the lore as a nod to Sunstrider House.
And again, the problem is when you (as in the people designing the stuff, not YOU as a person) literally ONLY make reprsentation for this niche aspect and blatantly ignore the rest. This is why it was so bad, because it literaly validated the playerbase born prejudice about Belves vconsisting only in vain airheads.
Maybe because after a zombie apocalypse and a nonstoping chain of military interventions their treasure coffers aren´t exactly abundant? I mean Lor´themar mentions this in his most recent love short story… how the Horde is poor right now. and the Blood elves ARE Horde.
And gold jewerly is not precisely assets typically used by the poor.
You keep mentioning the recent Blizz art team developments and we keep telling you those are particularly bothersome cause yes, they´re quite lore biased in favor of picturing a vain and superficial image of the Belf race.
Did you know the Belves were suffering famine after Arthas kicked them from their pedestal, for example? And how can we lore junkies take seriously this “played in gold” image of the Belf race when we get things like the Isle of Thunder or the more recent “Three Sisters” comics in which is depicted that the elves don´t even have enough resources to properly defend their territories and thatzombies STILL run rampant all over Quel´thalas´Ghostlands? It doesn´t make sense…
No this is the point. It is NOT accurate as per the lore… it´s “accurate” regarding the playerbase perception of the race.
Kraes is NOT the only example… show me the mountains of plated gold depicted in Halduron´s armor or in Liadrin´s. Or in the armor of the Sunreaver Onslaught from MoP. Or in Ranger Orestes (R.I.P.), etc.
Lor´thema´s recent racial model made EXPRESSELY GAUDY AND OSTENTATIONS to portray that yes, he´s the king in all but name and will is NOT trhe ONLY accurate representation of the race.
That type of jewerly would at least have some sort of military explanation (tip ear protection or something). }And the Belves became HEAVILY militarized since the Third War.
Also, I love how you guys can sport your “battle scars” from a less than one year old battle in game while we can´t sport the same battle scars that decimated 90% of our favorite playable race. Talk about getting the most relevant event in your race ignored in favor of “muh pretty jewels!!”.
And this is why you are Anomaly No. 2, please never change!!
Quote the lore canon source, cause this is you making an hypothesis.
Funny, so I guess Jaina should be sporting a whole lingerie set made of metal and jewels cause I see no jewerly used in her case… outstanding ubber mage she is.
Or maybe other fictional races in other games aren´t related to Warcraft Belves?
Sure man, is not like Rommath participated directly in the battle defending Silvermoon under Belo´vir´s orders as per “Blood of the Highborne”
Oh wait…
Nor Kael´thas and the elves that actually CARED for Silvermoon went back to fight as per WC3:TFT and Blood of the Highborne
Oh wait…
Nor the High Elves that DID NOT care joined the self exiling survivors following Jaina to Kalimdor as per WC3 and the Arthas novel
Oh wait…
Well dude, when you see die 90% of your family and friends in the most traumatic way possible AND afterwards you have to dispose of their bodies as if they were enemies of the worst kind, then those 10.000 years of history / culture suddenly become MUCH less relevant.
When a gross traumatic catastrophe IS the trigger involved? Absolutely. Even the Farstriders realized they couldn´t keep a mana vegan regime if they pretended to survive, period.
That´s not “my pedantic idea” that´s literally how lore discussion works (cause if “everything is possible” then “everything is certain” and contradictions exists next to each other).
Fanfiction and headcanons are NOT official fiction work no matter how much the fans qq over that. That´s how life works and the one that needs to understand this is not me, is you.
I’ll break it down for you
Guady Jewelry and 70’s hairdo’s are all belf’s need.
Gaudy Jewelry is not represtive of belf culture.
but pheonix’s
pheonix’s, yes, the rest of the gaudy stuff no.
omg some erper on Moon Gaurd got an npc in Silvermoon City
Where is Gallows with his popcorn.
I think that about summons it up.
I think this can serve as the major highlight of the thread tbh.
Dear Sommand, this is the very BEST argument we need to confirm how much Blizzard DOES NOT CARE LIKE AT ALL over the Belf race. They ignore the repercutions of the event that basically created them, but ofc let´s put a Moonguard ERPer avatar as an in-game essential asset of the race!!!
And then peoploe says Belves aren´t a joke race for Blizz and that we got “preferential treatment” in the customizations smh…
It buuurnnss!!! How could you!!! After what the devs did to us Belf fans in the Baine rescue scenario…
I thought you liked us Sommand /cries on shoulder
I’m sorry, it’s like my favourite popcorn gif.
Gallows is less likely to poison it, toss my still twitching body into the Dalaran sewers and stand on my head until the gators finish feasting… Then again…
