I am honestly curious as to what issues this could cause, because in my mind it solves a lot of the drama involved.
Have raids and dungeons drop badges again, in addition to whatever loot rules Blizzard decides they want us to use this year.
That way, at a minimum, there is the expectation that even if you lose out on a dropped roll, you could eventually get enough badges to purchase whatever piece you are missing in a couple of weeks anyway.
Aside from the issue of just getting gear from directly off the bosses, would this not at least add a layer of protection so that it’s not the absolute end of the world if bad RNG causes you to miss out on loot for the week?
Also Please Note: I’ve been thinking about this since personal loot was a thing, not sure about anyone else but I’ve always felt I got less loot overall with PL, but it wouldn’t feel as bad if I could at least have the knowledge of buying gear after a couple of weeks.
I’m holding off on saying whether this is a bad idea until we see what kind of rewards M+ gets. M+ already lives in the shadow of raid loot, but if M+ loot becomes better, then maybe I can be for this.
IMO I liked the personal loot system. I just think they needed to bring back loot protection though like they had in BfA iirc and add an option for raids to be Master Loot or Personal Loot.
Yeah I’ve been saying this too along with the crafted gear. There should be a few other avenues to get gear. WoW is the only MMO I’ve played that is so restrictive and weird about it.
Anytime they’ve had vendors, it’s been popular.
Honestly all for this like every boss you complete per week gives you a certain number of one of four currencies depending on difficulty so after so many run if rng hates you and you can’t get that piece of gear you really want eventually you’ll be able to buy it with the raid currency.
Like Destiny 2 does a similar system with Raids nowadays like completing an encounter or opening secret chests will reward you with a currency you can spend at the end of the raid for additional chances at loot.
The old badge systems were great, imo. Go into Heroic dungeons, earn badges, buy some pieces to get you in the door of raiding or just up your outdoor ilevel for some better mob genocide.
Simple, easy, filled some spots for raiders until they could get better, filled a niche for outdoor players and got people into dungeons.
I don’t see a reason why they couldn’t do this with the different levels of the raid, too.
I know the catalyst will exist again, but that still relies on drops. But badges… badges were a different animal— and fun, imo.
No and no. There is nothing wrong with going into dungeon and rolling for loot. Badges sucks, so did dinar. I still have 2 dinars sitting in bags that are just waist of space in bags.
Badges are just another form of treadmill as well, not sure why Blizz has such a blindspot to this. You don’t think this would increase participation?
Thats was the thing to me too. The badges were a treadmill, but one that actually had an end point which meant you were actively encouraged to stay on until the end.
Where now, if you get hit with enough bad luck there is nothing stopping you from just getting off.
We had badges and some deterministic loot in the past. Ion thinks that RNG loot drops and the Great Vault add excitement to the game and are the best way forward. However, when we had badges, people could still chase RNG loot and they didn’t hurt the game.
I get that, but I would counter that badges/deterministic loot actually encourages more participation (in addition to people now wanting to play and gear alts). So even if all they care about is their bottom line, this would arguably help that as well.
