These forums are filled with the kinds of people who enjoy making others suffer. They will defend the vote kick system to the bone so that they can continue to haze people
It’s got nothing to do with making others suffer. People who hate the vote kick system just never stop to think what random dungeons would be like without it. You’d have people trolling constantly and not be able to do anything about it except leave and requeue.
Many people use the tool as it is intended. I’m not referencing those people here
The problem with a tool like this is that a small minority of people can be very destructive.
Even when used as intended it can be overly harsh.
For example lets say a DPS DC’s. Ok, vote kick, all is well, right?
(This has happened to me) The DPS’s game client booted them. They click reconnect and it thinks for a bit, and then fails. They relaunch the client, log back in, and through no fault of their own they have a deserter debuff
This is entirely at the fault of Blizzard but Blizzard slaps a punishment on anyways
It is naive to think people do not abuse this. If there were no deserter debuff it wouldn’t matter. But there is, and it does
There are 4 people in this thread that put words into people’s mouths all day. They have no lives and spend 16 hours a day in the forums making up stuff. Don’t take it personally
I have been healing dungeons and getting kicked. groups are running past all the trash and kicking healers. they reque when they run past all the trash and healer gets ported to them. i didnt do anything to deserve a group removal
ive been in multiple groups where im healing and they just run past all the trash, get the healer killed and just requed to get another healer when they get to the reset spot for the trash. i get deserter because i get aggro and die when they run off to reset trash to run dungeons faster
It may not be “your fault” but if there was no deserter debuff, people would just switch their router off in order to avoid deserter.
100% got kicked out of TW dungeon simply because I played a “fat race” character on my druid. I’m legit not making this up. It’s crazy the amount of toxicity in the dungeon/player community right now.
This is true, but I fundamentally disagree with this philosophy and is everywhere in this game. So while someone might disconnect their router on the off chance what does it matter? Why do I have to be punished because someone “might” do something?
What do they gain? They get to leave a group for free … so they don’t gain anything other than leaving the group without a deserter debuff. The game will queue in another person instantly.
While there is a small cost, the cost is much smaller than someone having to wait to play again.
This is all over the game. For example, I appreciate that they have certain mobs cause you to dismount because when a new patch launches those NPCs will get swarmed by people. However that happens for what, a day? And then that NPC is just annoying because any time I go past one I am dismounted and have to re-mount.
This is obviously no great issue. But the amount of time saved over the lifetime of that NPC is much less than the amount of time wasted, from players having to re-mount over the many years it then stands there.
Blizzard can 100% be smarter about this.
For example, in the DC connection situation, they could give a person a freebie once a day. Even if someone wants to unplug their router they can only do it once.
It’s just applying simple logic and them not doing the absolute bare minimum
The thing is, history has shown that it’s not an “off chance”. When there was no deserter debuff, people did it constantly. They would just random queue, then leave if they got one of the longer dungeons. Since tanks got instant queues anyway, there was no drawback for doing it.
There is an easy solution to this above.
Also the game often boots you, and they can tell if you lost your internet connection vs a server-side disconnect.
