[A-RP] Duskmyre Dedication

Lana Dalton hammered the last nail into the wooden wall at the entrance to the Blue Recluse, a wall just recently reconstructed by the one to whom it was now dedicated. The final name plate had come in, and the memorial was ready to be hung. She stepped back to view her work, making sure the large plaque was aligned properly.

It was made of a dark cherry-stained oak wood, with engraved, gilded lettering at the top, and lined with a decorative metal border of tiny gears all fixed together. Beneath the engraving were small golden plates, finely etched with four names she’d found in the tavern’s old and scattered records.

The woman gently touched the corner of Zaium’s nameplate, weary with remorse and mourning. Though he’d been on his deathbed for the past several months, he’d been a dedicated worker and friend up to the very end, and it had been difficult news to bear when she received the message. She wished she hadn’t thought of this project so late, that he would have been able to see it, but fate determined otherwise.

Before a tear could surface in her eyes, she slammed her fist against the wall in frustration of her helplessness in the situation. She bowed her head, conceding to reality, and let her fingers slip from the unharmed surface.
