I regret buying TWW, the Dwarf thing really doesn’t do anything for me.
I like elements from both games, but I have far more playtime in classic than retail.

The thing about Retail is that most of us played the game until it wasn’t fun any longer. Each expansion has pushed the game further in PVE mechanics and APM required for Arena but that doesn’t mean it is fun. For me that happened in Cataclysm. I play this version of the game because to me this is World of Warcraft. Retail is not World of Warcraft.
As far as PVE difficulty goes, WoW has always been cutting edge for raiding difficulty. Those raids people think were so easy were the most difficult encounters in an MMO when they first launched and some of the best guilds in the world from MMOs like Everquest were the ones who had the best luck with them. Retail raiding is just a progression of that over twenty years. Blizzard has to invent and re-invent PVE mechanics that challenge players who have been progression raiders for over a decade - it’s a no brainer that the most difficult content is designed for people who have cleared all the most difficult content.
I cleared the raids that mattered to me when WoW was a good game, and don’t have the slightest idea what is going on in retail because I don’t care.

Classic only exists because fans of the original didn’t enjoy what modern WoW has turned into. It makes sense that it’s a point of conversation for us and not for Retail players.
Though I’d be highly surprised if users are regularly and deliberately going into the Retail forums just to badmouth the state of the game, as you have suggested.
Giving you a tremendous benefit of the doubt that you’re not just a sockpuppet troll.

Classic wow is like yoga. It’s relaxing and takes no thought. Retails awesome but you gotta be playing 100% to do anything worthwhile. Starts to feel like a second job after a while.

I gave retail a shot several months ago.
My biggest gripes were it felt like a single player game while leveling, even when in the dungeon finder nobody ever talked and felt like I was playing with bots.
The different ways you can customize your character is really good and I enjoyed the xmog options you have now.
Many people don’t want extremely challenging content, many just want some easy content they can have a few drinks with and crack jokes with friends/guild mates as they clear content. A lot of this pushing for challenging content in MMORPG comes from failed MOBA players who couldn’t hack it at the competitive level and took their sweatlord mentality to the easiest version of gaming which has had a detrimental impact on the game imo.
Class homogenization killed the fantasy for me, every class can essentially do everything vs in classic where there are abilities that only a Druid has access to and then you have abilities that only a Shaman can do, the fantasy of class roles was sacrificed for balanced gameplay.
Can talk a lot on this but I’ve already unsubbed, WoW Classic is in really rough shape both from dev absence and player caused issues also but I digress.

The striking resemblance of male trolls and female gnomes aside, are there any other two race/sex combinations that look the same?
For sure though, I think that if you tried to make any objective measurements about what good should look like, then Retail takes the cake. It’s the lack of most of these grouping automations, and so-called “QoL” features in Classic that give shared hardships to overcome, which comes pretty close to forcing connections, and as unappealing as that may sound on paper, I don’t think its value can be overstated.

Ultimate raids in ffxiv take more pulls to clear than any single boss in wow so no.
Classic isn’t perfect but half the horrible bs in retail at least isn’t there. mythic+ is the worst thing they ever added to the game.
Current day retail uses FOMO seasons to force you to play twice as long as you want to so that you keep your sub open. Its bad game design and its universally disliked by high end raiders.
