Simply put 25 pet slots is not enough given everything a Hunter would want and need to do to play their class fully.
With Cataclysm Hunter’s became the Swiss army knife of buff support. Being able to bring a version of just about every buff or debuff your group could want or need. With that, we of course need to get the corresponding Pet to provide those buffs/debuffs.
To fully cover that we need…
- Serpent/Raptor (Armor Reduction)
- Fox/Tallstrider (Attack Speed Reduction)
- Sporebat (Casting Reduction when not BM spec)
- Corehound (Casting Reduction + Hero/Lust)
- Bird of Prey/Scorpid (Disarm)
- Monkey (Disorient)
- Boar/Hyena (Increased Bleed Damage when not BM Spec)
- Rhino (Increased Bleed Damage + Knockback)
- Hydra/Wolf (Increased Crit when not BM Spec)
- Devilsaur (Increased Crit + Healing Reduction)
- Ravager (Increased Physical Damage Taken when not in BM Spec)
- Worm (Increased Physical Damage + AoE Damage)
- Dragonhawk/Wind Serpent
- Cat (Increase Str/Agi when not in BM Spec)
- Spirit Beast (Increase Str/Agi + Healing)
- Carrion Bird/Bear (Physical Damage Reduction)
- Spider/Dog/Crab (Root when not in BM Spec)
- Silithid (Root + Fort)
- Nether Ray/Moth/Gorilla (Silence/Interrupt)
- Crocolisk/Warp Stalker (Slow/Snare when not in BM Spec)
- Chimaera (Slow/Snare + AoE Magic Damage)
- Bat/Wasp (Stun when not in BM spec)
- Shale Spider (Stun + Kings)
Just covering the buffs/debuff we get pretty much covers all the slots we get. Which I know some will say that is fine. However, part of the Hunter experience is tracking down and taming rares. What’s more, in Cataclysm Blizz began to put in challenge tames (Tames that require you to do more than just simply find a spawn and hit the tame button).
These additional “goal” tames consist of (Only counting those with unique looks belonging solely rare and boss spawns, and the few challenge tames that do not get unique models to themselves) totals 46 different pets. That list of 46 doesn’t fully cover the aforementioned 23 (technically 24 if you want the personal CD as well) pets you need to fully unlock your Hunter, leaving a remaining 9 additional pets needed to fully unlock your Hunter.
That isn’t even taking into consideration other rare spawns a Hunter may desire to tame such as a full set of Madexx, the traditional Spirit Beast collection, just other rare or boss spawns in general, or the desire to have one of each pet family (Which totals 37 different families).
Honestly, 10 pages of stable slot (100 slots) would be enough, but if we are going to increase the page count it might as well match retails 20 pages or 205 total pets.
That is all. Thank you for coming to my pettalk.
